Hello. Im new here. I have a project Im working on and have been lurking here a bit. Getting some good info. Plan to be around a little.

This project bime I am working on is requiring a jackshaft. This is something new for me. I ordered one it shoukd be here in a few days. It comes with the mounting tabs to be welded. But I have been seeing these pillow blocks. After much reading I ran out and grabbed a pair. Im going to use them instead. They already have the bearing installed. One of them the bearing is sitting straight. The other the bearing is in an angle. Can I adjust this or is this a bad one? Forgive me for my total noob question.

If it is the ones i am thinking of, the bearings are self adjusting, so it could be sitting at an angle

I assume you are talking about one like this

Yep almost the exact one. So its ok for the one to be sitting in the off center? I thought I was going to have to return it. LOL

Yes they do that (bearings self adjust) so if your alignment isn't perfect you don't burn out the bearing. Basically if you're a little off the bearing will just shear off with normal mounting. With these it'll allow you to be a little off and still be okay. :)

Im sorry for being a total noob. Again I know its been answered already. I can take pics later. But let me ask again. If I put these two pillow blocks side by side at their current state there is no way I could put a shaft through the bearings. Its not a little off its way off. Like one is dead on the other is looking down. If the move inside there so I can move it once the shaft is in it then thats fine. But if the bearing doesnt move I cannot use it. I hope this is clear. I will get a pic this afternoon.

Once the shaft is put in, they will be straight. Twist or some how move the bearing straight.

The bearings are hemispherical so the can spin about in the housing.

put a shaft in the rotated bearing you should be able to move it straight up and down. Usually you have to rotate the bearing in a pillow block to replace just the bearing it should move freely into place.

1 more thing nobody is saying. If you had to twisting that bearoing to 90 degrees is how you get it out. That is why they can move so far. It is ok they are meant to move. Just move it back. And like has been said they do not lock into position because they are self adjusting.

I run this type of bearing on my karts as axle bearings, in my case they are at a five degree angle on each side.
