Jackshaft Benefits

What would be the benefit of a jackshaft on an electric go-kart?

We have a ME0909 motor running at 24 volts (limited by race rules). We currently have a 3:1 ratio. Would a jackshaft help us go faster while working the motor less?

Example: Would a Jackshaft ratio of 2:1 be better than a straight 2:1 ratio?

The end ratio is still the same but a js adds resistance.

I've read a lot of discussions about chain speed an link angle, but I think the added mass would do more harm than you'd ever gain by any minute difference in chain speed or link angle.

Jackshafts have a place, don't think this is it. Some assist with allowing different gears where tire diameter is an issue other allow for simplifying gear ratio changes easier, others are just due to weight of kart and geometry. I am sure many others have other reasons for using jack shafts too but with an electric kart I don't think its the right fit.
