Your jackshaft has a 3/16 keyway NOT a 1/4" for the simple reason the driven has a 3/16" keyway and that is how they are broached. The BKS karts was one of the best single seater back yard go karts made. Another suggestion on drilling the shaft for the roll pins. It is best to drill into the keyway so the key cannot work it way out or put a washer there because keys tend to walk over time since they get compressed. The set screw on the sprocket will hold the key for a while but they vibrate lose over time. Have made that mistake and we learn from out mistakes. Did a good job on the fabrication.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there supposed to be a way to adjust the chain? I just picked up a couple Go-Furs and one has a very loose chain. Do I just take a link out?

Chain does stretch over time and there is some adjustment you can do. Loosen the four bolts that are holding the engine in place and pull the engine back towards the bumper. The motor mount plate is slotted 5/16 so you can do this but once you are all the way back to the rear of the slot time for a new chain and you start all over by pushing the engine forward. When you buy replacement chain get the #420 chain.

If I do that it just moves the engine closer to the jack shaft which is welded to the back of the motor mount. I don't see a way to move the sprocket on the jack shaft away from the sprocket on the axle.

The engine on jackshaft are mounted on the same plate. Pull the jackshaft towards the rear of the kart to tighten the chain. If to lose remove 1 link.

If you Google Bks go fur go karts most of the stuff including pics are on there alot. I usually try an check there frequently.

I have a BKS Grasshopper, but it is clutch and chain instead of TAV.

How about a picture, I'd definitely switch that chain clutch out. Those are only ok for mini bikes.

It all depends on the tire size. Once the tire size gets above 13" in diameter you don't want a single clutch drive, you want a torque converter (variable speed drive system).
