I'm hopefully bringing the frame by a powder coater tomorrow to see if his actual price matches his over the phone guesstimate of $150-$200, which I doubt it will. I didn't mention the front & rear bumpers or the side bumper/nerf bars (whatever they're called) but if I can get it all done for $200-$250 I'll do it. I'm debating re-chroming the bumpers but I think color matching them with the frame will look better.

The first order of parts showed up today from Margay, new right spindle & complete tie rods. This is everything I've bought so far, most of it is in the mail:

right spindle
right & left complete tie rods
Briggs flathead from CL $185 (came with a sweet new fuel bottle & 3 gal of methanol)
7 degree motor mount
Hilliard extreme duty clutch - 12 tooth
Enginetics master cylinder rebuild kit
sprocket - 65 tooth
sprocket hub (old one had a broken tab)
new chain
seat
seat & other misc hardware
new header wrap
tank brace
carb linkage

I'm sure I'll think of something else to order very soon

Sounds good, but a 15-degree motor mount would give you more fuel tank to tire clearance...

I knew I should have just asked before ordering the mount! I did a few searches but surprisingly didn't find anything saying what angle is best with a flathead. I went with the 7 degree because I saw where the tank was when I set the motor on the frame to see roughly how it would fit. I don't know why I ordered it without being certain what would fit best, I'll send it back when it shows up and go with the 15 degree instead. Thanks for the advice.

I'm buying this wrecked kart this evening for $500. It looks like it has a lot of sellable/useable parts on it. Good running KX125 engine. Frame is mangled in front. I doubt I'll use the motor but I can use the wheels, seat, seat mounting system ect. I'll just sell off whatever I don't use on fleebay, craigslist or here if anyone needs something that I won't. He doesn't know the manufacturer of the chassis.

Got it for $450. Just like the Margay I'm trying to find out what it is now. The steering block says "Kali Kart"...does that mean it's an old CRG.

I know, the guy knew NOTHING about karts. his brother bought it for $1600 like 6 months ago and then wrecked it the third time he used it (in a new neighborhood that was being built). I thought there was no way I'd get it before someone else because I saw it on Craigslist at midnight, around 6 hours after he listed it, and I couldn't get there until the next evening but luckily his schedule matched mine and he lived 10 min away so it was meant to be

The more I look at it the more I think it's really not that much work to get it up & running as is. Not as a race kart obviously, just a fast play kart. I think I'll cut the bent portion off the front, rebuild the brakes, new clutch, new cables (clutch & throttle), hardware here & there, tie rods (ends are fine) & a gas tank cap...other than that I really don't see anything else it will need before its at least drive-able.

look at the guys attempt at "fixing" the throttle cable. On his garage floor I saw the coiled up FUEL TUBING that he was trying to use as cable housing. It was pretty hilarious when I realized what it was. It ensured that I'll have to tear it down to go over EVERYTHING before driving it, no telling what else he "fixed".

Sorry no updates on the Margay, it's sitting in my garage waiting to get dropped off at the powder coater and I have all the parts to put it back together. The CRG has been eating up my spare time but it's almost done. Tracking down all of the seals that I needed wasn't easy or cheap but I should have the brake system back together by this weekend. I ended up having to hone the master cylinders and the rear caliper but they're smooth as glass now, the front calipers were smooth. Stripped off all the faded blue anodizing so they look a lot better too. I wasn't planning on it originally but I put so much work into the brakes that I'll probably thrown a few coats of paint on the chassis before I re-assemble it, same color as current. The only parts I bought were ALL of the brake seals, brake shims, clutch & throttle cable, gas tank cap, tie rods & ends, front upper bumper (chopped off the bent bottom bumper), spindle king bolts & spindle bearings, exhaust gasket and other misc hardware. No major expenses with it so far.

Did u run the Briggs?? I set one up on my kart & the setup was not working the seat wouldn't mount rt.

No I didn't yet but I exchanged the 7 degree mount I bought for a 15 degree mount and it looks like it will clear. I will soon find out

you'll need 15 for sure, mine was even close with that. 7 would work if you had a remote tank though.

it's my mild case of OCD...which can make projects like this take forever!!

Considering how rough the floor pans were I thought they would look like crap no matter what I did, but I scraped off the old clear coat and put a few coats of acrylic lacquer on them and they look pretty good. Not as smooth as they could be but definitely good enough for floor pans.

I guess I could start a build thread, or a re-build thread...
