Greetings,

I am looking at purchasing a go kart off of CL. Seller doesn't know what model this is. I am thinking its a Manco Dingo. Can someone confirm?

Also, ad basically says its complete minus the motor. I was hoping to go get a Predator and slap it on and be done, but I don't know enough about these to know if it's just that simple.

Could someone review these pictures and let me know how much work I will have getting it going and whether or not $150 is a fair price.

Thanks

It looks like an American Express.

The little brother to the Dingo.

It's a little smaller than a Dingo.

Aren't they synonymous? Aside from the added roll cage of course.
That's a Dingo.

$100 is about the highest I'd go, but go get it anyway.

No they're not synonymous.. the Dingo IS taller (longer and wider)
here's a good size comparision pic of the two side by side:
dingo_amex_comp.jpeg

The Dingo typically comes with the front axle beam support you see in the pic,
but.. I'm not 100% sure that's always the case.

So yeah, not sure, but chances are it's indeed an American Express.
But frankly I'd wait for Grant to show up..I'm sure he'll be able to tell w/o doubt from the pic.

PS both chassis came w/o any bumpers as seen in this pic, the roll bar and front bumper (you see in OPs pic) and a full brush guard some (full cage!) with different model numbers (and model NAMES) still most call them Dingos and Amexs because of their identical base chassis to the two.

This one looks like a 285 to me. The seat mounts and the steering column mount is the dead giveaway.

It looks a lot like my Dingo SE but I don't have that horizontal seat support on the lower back of the seat.

Maybe a 285 or 286, they are both little dingos.

Manco Baja 200 or very similar. You could narrow it down by brakes, tire size, and battery. Looks like that one was built for electric start? It has a battery box support in the back.

Without measurements or some comparison, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a dingo & an AmEx but, I'm almost certain that's not an AmEx; either a Dingo or, as Grant ^^ said...

Did you buy it yet? I hope it didn't get sold out from under you. That would be bad.

An American Express is strictly a "racer" style kart (black, typically with red, white and blue graphics) and not an off-road type. Some Dingos did share the same basic frame as an American Express, but just added a roll cage and bigger tires as the two most noticeable changes. I have one and it has spring-loaded front spindles (for off road) but some Dingos do not have them.

Let's not get confused by Manco's arcane product naming convention.

...still most call them Dingos and Amexs because of their identical base chassis to the two.

I care little for what "most" call them, I only care for factory designations either by a frame number code or the catchy little names they were given.

An American Express is strictly a "racer" style kart...

Not true, they did have a "roll cage" as standard, most have simply been removed over time...

Some Dingos did share the same basic frame as an American Express

Also not true; they may be the same shape but, the AmEx is physically smaller than the dingo...

Have a lok at the pic Alex (itsid) posted (originally posted by Fast Eddie); notice the size difference?

As you know, I built an AmEx from scratch after doing extensive research on both models...

Well, I'm going to have to ask you to prove it, sir.

Because I have in my very possession a dimensionally similar "American Express" but it is for all intents and purposes a Dingo. Especially when it says Dingo right on it.

EDIT: at one point everything coming from the Manco factory had a roll cage on it, for liability purposes. Maybe the off road distinction should be live axle and larger rear tires? I await your answer.

My ken-bar is a Dingo to.

Seriously though, is that a battery tray on the passenger side? it may have had an electric start?

I offered $100 for it. No go. I wanted to check it out and possibly offer more, but the ad is gone, so I assume it sold. I did find out there was no clutch, which isn't that big of a deal, but still more money.

I have a Manco two-seater and love it. I'd like to get a single seat that's a little more roomy. My left thigh is taking a beating from the frame. I think a Dingo would be nice, but I'm open to whatever. I ride on my land, which is around 5 flat acres of woods. I've got some trails that I made. It's a blast.

If anyone has recommendations on a off-road single seat, let me know.

I appreciate all the comments on this thread. You guys have a great forum here.

"Dimensionally similar" to what?

As I said in a previous post

Without measurements or some comparison, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a dingo & an AmEx...

Having said that, If your kart says it's a Dingo, then it,s a Dingo, not an AmEx...

EDIT: at one point everything coming from the Manco factory had a roll cage on it, for liability purposes. Maybe the off road distinction should be live axle and larger rear tires? I await your answer.

Well, as you can see from the pic above, the AmEx is live axle & does have larger wheels, just not as large as the dingo...

However, since there isn't much info regarding either kart, it's difficult to prove or disprove anything; the few things I do know (unfortunately, I can't provide evidence) are
- the AmEx is physically smaller than the dingo of the same age/era
- the AmEx was a limited run, only being produced for a few years...

It is possible that Manco continued to produce the smaller kart under the Dingo name...
