WHAT THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS WAS THIS ALL ABOUT? This is how we treat young noobs now, is it?

I've notice over the past few weeks the treatment of noobs is declining; now, I realise we've had a few noobs who started out being trouble, you get that but, is that any reason to treat ALL noobs as if they're all tarred with the same brush? NO! We treat ALL members as we would want to be treated...

The thing to remember is we were all noobs once; you need to ask yourselves would you still be here if the rest of the forum treated YOU like that?

I agree. I have also been seeing the slow decline of manners towards noobs. They may not know all the rules, but it is up to us to educate them in a respectful manner

Please could we show a bit more maturity and respect in the future. I know that it is sometimes difficult, and i myself can get drawn into it, but lets see if we can behave better from now on

***FYI! This post was written then immediately deleted by Alex; I chose to undelete it as I found it to be very relavent to this thread... Tony (Fabroman)***

I don't know if that's a good example actually...
it started as a noob'ish but nonetheless somehow valid question and was treated that way (with some good fun mixed in as usual)

it went downhill, the moment the insanity level rose;
We have quite a few teenagers (pubertarians as I like to call them) in here.. and they're great.
Valid questions, some already answered and noob'ish -true-,but some more specific and very valid.. everything's fine.

And every once in a while we meet someone who's obviously victimised by his hormones.
Which -don't get me wrong- is perfectly normal for a teenager.
the same amount of brainmorphism that's going on in a teenager
would qualify a grown up for a mental hospital,
and that's no exaggeration I'm afraid :(
The 'reasoning' part of the brain is just in developement, and even the most stupid ideas
will not get filtered at all. (look it up if you want)

So in my opinion, the difference in brain matter plasticity was the key for this -truely unfortunate- incident.
That's not the fault of GMan
(we've all been through this, some worse than others; that's biology; not personality)

But it's nearly impossible for a grown up to take ideas from such mind serious.
And thus, that incomprehensible babble triggered our troll-senses;

In the end, we're human and driven by experience...
if it cackles like a duck and looks like a duck.... it's hard to see a swan ;)
And neither you nor me can do anything against it..

The single thing that is left to prevent that at all:
Ignoring all noobs.

And that's not an option, is it?

I agree... a little... it really depends on the noob. We all have helped guys out with their first question and had good results all around and RECENTLY too. But YES if someine is a clown we Really let them have it and I guess it would be better to just ignore them.

There's an old saying, "a little knowlegde is a dangerous thing". Add that to raging teenage hormones & what seems, to some of us, to be a completely ridiculous & outrageous idea can actually seem quite normal & "level headed" to some so, do we belittle those ideas & those with those ideas simply because we don't understand them? I think not...

As a free online forum (thanks to Robert), any idiot can join & post; in my experience, though, the younger members are the easier ones to deal with, it's the more mature members who fire up when we point out when they break the rules; I have been verbally abused by (& consequently banned) members for pointing out the rules, it happened again just a few days ago...

The simple fact is this: The next generation is our legacy; what they learn, they will learn from us; that isn't limited to knowlege & information, it extends to how to act & react in certain situation, how we should treat people & how people should treast us...

The words & actions in question & those similar to them (we're not the only one's, unfortunately, it happens everywhere) will inevitably teach the next generation that it's ok to look down on & belittle anyone who's opinion doesn't agree with theirs & as a result, we will end up with a generation of haters whose primary purpose in like will be to destroy everyone else; A little far fetched? maybe, maybe not...

Its like I said the other night, When Sid and I rather unintentionally insulted each other. If this were Facebook or Utube or many other nasty places on the web, It would have gotten mean, people defending each other and Comments get really ugly. It is amazing how people hide behind their keyboard and spout off hate they would never say out loud or in public. This forum is NOT that way at all. Thats why I like it. I think once in a while (not yesterday) some person usually younger not necessarily a teen gets on here and acts like this is facebook or something and, they dont last long but... we sure let them have it "G rated" on their way out.

In a perfect world...we could gently nudge every wayward member into compliance and ignore the insanity they sometimes bring as baggage and be "the bigger man"....and look the other way....and we would never appear as pompous, rude, or just plain mean....

And....despite the times we don't....we really do try to do that when we can....

It's not my place to dictate to anyone here what's right or wrong....but...I also just can't help myself to opine when trouble makers show up....I'm not perfect....and sometimes I let my emotions get the best of me....

But I don't pick on new members for lack of knowledge, lack of knowledge of the rules...(although that irritates me)....but attitude.....

We all want to help everyone we can....we all want to have everyone enjoy their time here and never leave....but when someone comes in with a chip on their shoulder....bashes this forum and it's members....I think it sends the wrong message to any future members that that can stand if we let it ride...

Just my two cents.....

BTW: 'Sid had a good point on the teenage drain bramage....but even hormone crazed zombies should show some respect....some self-control, and some effort to make legible posts and follow the rules and etiquette of posting on a forum.....

....ya....I feel as though this topic is directed at such individuals....as myself. Everyone here SHOULD be more respectful. And all of this, because I asked a question 1 to many times....do you think that was a reason to ban me? Your pride got in the way of your judgment. Oh well....I will probably be banned for life after fabroman reads my message. Sorry love, but I feel as though you deserve it. Tata.

No one is above getting constructive criticism. Including myself. But pull a person aside before you put them on blast in front of everyone. That was my whole ARGUMENT.

...can someone tell me how to delete my account....I can't seem to figure it out. I can't be in a place that seems to talk to new members in such a condensending manner. All of you still do not get it. And it's for that reason, that you will all continue to talk the way you do. Anyways, which way to the exit...

I deleted it for you. It is called being banned. After all the times we have asked, you still decide to triple post. Oh well....

... & that, ladies & gentlemen, is a perfect example of what I mentioned earlier, complete disrespect from day one...

He was asked questions which weren't answered, we still don't know his location, multi posting every other post but, when I point it out, I'm the bad guy? His last great act of defiance is shown above, his second last is in my inbox &, believe me, you don't want to see it...

NOTE: Despite what he may think, he is NOT what this is about, he is who I was referring to in post #6...

See and that's just the wrong way to think about it.

that was a minor and common mistake, no bad feelings, just a "FYI.. DON'T!"

Doing that IN FRONT of everyone, can teach the next visitor the same lesson BEFORE he trips over that same wire;
and that's why small mistakes like that were handled in public.

Bigger ones, will be dealt with in private.

Right! I learned the way this forum works by watching it. I never read any rules or guidlines anywhere. I just watched and learned by others mistakes and requests to correct poor forum Etiquette. Where is Emily Post when you need her?? all we got is Poboy???

Ok, maybe his was a bit "stronger" than usual but, after seeing 3 pages of double, triple & quadruple posts, I cracked... I stand by my actions & I had no complaints from Robert...

Actually..
it's a pitty you'd have to tell anyone AT ALL!

That's the most basic forum netiquette..
don't swear, don't scream, don't doublepost!

Any decent human should be able to do follow those rules untold by default!

*shrugs*

'sid

PS there's a nice doublepost prevention hack for vbulletin.. it auto-merges posts like that...
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96602

helped me reduce some hassle back in the days ;)

Now...if we just had auto delete software that would delete the next consecutive post 3 times in a row....I'd bet these lazy morons would find that edit button PDQ.....

That is a great bit of software. I will ask Robert what he thinks of it
