Hi,
I bought a tc from minichopper on here. It arrived in a comet box.

However there are a few things that make me think it is fake.
1. The spring on the driven is not green but silver
2. The cover has no logo.
3. The belt has a "non comet" number.

However the backplate says "comet industries".

Minichopper claimed it was genuine. However it sounds like this one.

Should it operate like a genuine if it is a fake?
Thanks
Rob

It's hard to say without seeing it, however comet or hoffco is a very proud company. They label things we get from them.

The clone driver clutch operation had greatly improved since the beginning, however it still looks like the driven clutches, while they do operate the same tend to ride the belt much too high on the clutch, as if it can not idle properly.

I think mine is fake then, because as I previously said to you in a PM, the belt seems tight a idle, and I thought I had the wrong belt. It also seems a little high on the driven. I will get pics today.

Well if it was fake then I don't think it would have any logo/name at all right? Wouldn't that be illegal to sell a product with a different companies name?

I dunno but bmi clearly state tyat they are selling a clone.
The only place I can see comet stamped is on the backplate. Also the belt looks a little frayed after just testing it. I hope it isnt going to chew up belts, cos I have never had to replace a belt on the 40 series on my kart.

I will get some pics later.

Yeah - the only place you would get stopped at though would be customs.

Small shipments usually won't be checked at customs, especially if it's marked as a 'gift' (as most chinese retailers will do on smaller shipments, as they're not subject to customs tax)

On the larger shipments... well, if Comet never sues anyone for trademark infringement, the customs agents probably wouldn't even know what a torque converter is, much less how to tell a genuine comet from a fake.

Ok heres my tc. The last pic shows how tight the belt wraps around the driven. One question- the allignment seems to be out. when I replaced the sprocket with a pulley on the jackshaft I made sure it was the same width. Why is it out of allignment, and should I remove a bit of material from the driver spacing?
