Ah miscommunication..
that spring (formerly unbeknownst to me) is indeed a series 30 spring.
at least that number is listed on more than just one website.

Whenever the "yellow spring" was mentioned on DIYGK before it was
204524A the reverse wound series 40 spring
(similarly wound [direction] to the series 30 spring but beefier)
And that's the one I thought you were refering to.
And since the comet manuals haven't listed any driven springs other than the stock green (red in your case) one...
[some do however list different garter springs]

But that proves a very interesting point, doesn't it?!

Now.. spring aside.. have you actually checked into anything I mentioned above?

Okay Sid,

Yesterday I removed the TAV2 and gave it a good cleaning.
Re-installing a piece at a time, I checked the bearings (5/8") on the driven shaft and they seem okay. Shafts are parallel and perpendicular to the mounting face.
I added and subtracted shims on the driver and could not find a sweet spot. No matter where driver was located the belt and sheaves heated up quickly.
The only place that is lubed is inside the driver where the weights move.
Since the TAV was installed it ran hot.
Didn't even get to the JS and chains before it heated up. No point in going forward until the initial heat-up is addressed.
What next, Sid?
I am assuming that the yellow spring is okay for the present.

I redid the chain tensioner. The original tensioner was on the power side and not the return side of the chain, and unsprung.
Tensioner is on the return side now and it is under spring tension. Works s whole lot better this way. I had it wrong to begin with.

How hot are we talking here. Like sear your finger prints off or just really warm.
Do you have a no contact IR thermometer? their dirt cheap now.
The reason I ask is my belt gets hot but there is alot of friction going on. If I remember my belt was just over 100° maybe 125? It felt hot but in the reality that's just warm. The driven might have been the 125°.

Hot as in real hot. Too hot to touch except briefly and it only takes seconds.

I have the back end off the ground and it still heats up pretty fast. Not having prior experience with mini's and 3-wheelers, I don't know how warm the sheaves and belt are supposed to run. If hot is normal, then I will just run it.
