Is a TAV the answer?

Ok guys, first things first - I'm 6'2" and 230lbs and will be riding this Doodlebug offroad 9.856 out of 10 times I get on it. 40 acre farm to play on.

Anyway, I'm picking up my Predator 212 for my Doodlebug this weekend and I'm planning on a 30 series TAV along with some exhaust and performance air filter.

Before I pulled the trigger I had a couple questions:

A.) Is a TAV what I'm looking for over a clutch?
B.) I'm looking at Go Powersports, is anyone having luck with an eBay TAV? $120+ shipping vs $85 shipped, so I'm curious.

You might as well do the tav now, rather than regret not doing it. It'll give you better low-end for off-road, with top end for on the street. Most people who've bought a Baja Warrior mini bike, end up ditching the clutch and jackshaft for a tav, because it acts better off road, plus has better speed. You get near infinite gears with a tav/CVT than just the single speed clutch.

Price might be steeper than a clutch but it'll be worth it.

several users bought the cheapest TAV kits on ebay (the comet clones are all the same anyways)
no complaints so far.

So, if you see one for 75 it'll be the same as the one you see for 120

The cheap belts are inconsistent in terms of reliability...

so if you need a replacement belt; buy a comet, or at least a known quality replacement.

the first one that comes with the kit has basically a 50:50 chance of being of decent quality and hold for a year when geared correctly.

So since it's in the kit.. why not use it and see how it goes?

Is there a list of companies that makes quality belts? It's going on 8 years since Comet closed its doors and that supply is probably very small now of OEM belts.

I think jacks small engines sells them through ebay.

Only bad thing about eBay is no customer service. Just buy from a seller you recognize or know and with a phone number. And then you should be ok.

My knockoff is on a barstool making about 12hp and no issues since I built the thing 2 years ago.

So yes torque converter all the way.
