I have a crossfire 150 Frame with a live axle and I was just wondering if i got a torque converter for my 6.5 hp predator(that I bought new) it if it would run good on that frame. I also have a 12 hp kohler motor(used and came with the cart and is around a 2001 or so) that I have that I believe the problem is just the fuel pump connections. Would you recommend I buy a torque converter for the 6.5 predator or the 12 kohler? Or is there a way around getting a torque converter?

Thanks

With that kart, you are going to need a TC. I would suggest getting the 6.5HP and gearing it low, like around 7:1. This should work fine.

If you use the 12HP, you are going to have to splash out and buy a comet 40 series TC that will be able to handle that much power. They run at around $400, so are not cheap. For the 6.5HP engine you can just get a Comet 30 series, which are rated up to 8HP and are a lot cheaper.

Its your call....

they have a new chinese tav2 30 series rated up to 13 hp 1 in shaft on ebay for about 180 with shipping

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-GO-KART-T.../330875133290?pt=Go_Karts&hash=item4d09b1dd6a

These chinese clones are rated at being able to handle up to 13HP, but you can bet your life on it that they cannot even handle what the genuine Comet can handle. You can maybe push the genuine comet to 10HP with faster belt wear.

The word clone means "exact copy", so they have copied the Comet 30 series. How can it now be rated to 13HP. You can bet that they haven't made it any stronger. We have had this discussion before on the forum. The clone might not break, but you will be changing belts every week.

I haven't had a chance to try the chinese tav2 yet but I am planning on it . I don't see what the problem is all the clone engines that we run and love are made in China.

It is the HP rating that is the problem, not the fact that it is a clone and made in China. If you run that TC with a 12HP engine, I guarantee you that you are going to be sorely dissapointed. You will only get satisfaction out of it if you run it with an engine smaller or equal to 8HP

I actually have another smaller go kart with the sprocket on the wheel, so if i got the kohler running could i just put it on that with a centrifugal clutch? Also the sprocket that's on the live axle right now is a 60t so if i bought a torque converter for the 6.5 hp would that be good enough to get it running aropund 20-25 mph? I just am cautious because its a big frame and i dont know if that 6.5 hp could push it.

A 12HP engine will probably have a 1" output shaft. A centrifugal clutch for this size shaft will be over $100.

well a clutch came with the motor because the guy tried running just the clutch on that live axle.

But do you think that 6.5 hp would be a big enough engine for it?

its says its good up to 13 hp and its for a 1 inch shaft. I think it should be perfect for a 12 hp engine since it has a 1 inch shaft clutch which should be tougher than a 3/4 inch clutch. The crossfire 150 frame looks big i would go with the 12 hp engine because your going to need the torque.

so you think the clone with the 1" bore would work fine? Also, i got the motor running with carb cleaner but i dont know if i need to rebuild the carb or if it was just the fuel pump because i took the carb off and the float and everything looks fine. any ideas how to troubleshoot it?

I would clean out the fuel system and put it back together and maybe replace the gaskets if they are nor reusable. Yes i would use the one inch tav 2 that i recommended with the 12 hp, if it didn't hold up to the rating they advertised then im sure alot of people would complain and and the seller would have a low seller rating which is not the case.
