Installing TAV2 on HF Predator 212 CC. What mods are needed. Experts chime in?

Im making a new build and I will post pics as soon as my TAV arrives. Mine is a ebay clone not a genuine comet, but as far as I have read the installation issues root from the engine not the TAV as the clone shares the same dimensions with the original comet.

I have done a bunch of research and these are the mods I have read will need to be done for it to fit on a predator model. Please correct me if I am missing anything or if something I have listed is incorrect. Thanks

- Elevate the engine 1/4th of an inch

- get new 5/16 24 bolts as the bolts that come with the tav2 clone are the incorrect thread for the predator

- Grind 2 fins off of the rear support of the tav for clearance.

- Add and extra washer on top of the crank shaft spacer that comes with the tav as it is too small.

Can anyone whos done this chime in? Thanks in advance

I had the exact same issue on my Subaru, having to add a washer on my crankshaft to get the driver and driven to line up correctly. Simple enough to measure with a straight edge and a ruler. I also had to remover a rib to mount the TAV in as vertical a position as I could get it.

Any issue that does arrive, like how much rib to remove, will be self explanitory once you begin to mount everything up.

I have also read that when the final piece of the driver unit is put on to the crank shaft, that only about 1/3 of it will be on the crank and the other 2/3 will be hanging off and held on by the bolt and washer. Is this true? and should there be slide play like when using a cent clutch or should it be bolted firmly into place?

There will be no play in the driver. It does hang off past the driveshaft a bit; but there is an extension, if you will, plus the outer washer and bolt.

To be honest, that TAV sat around soooo long, outside the box, before I installed it, I cannot remember if the bolts I used were the ones that came with the TAV. Possibly having the wrong bolts might be an expected given. I believe the bolt pattern around the driveshaft is pretty standard; but the bolt's thread pitch may not. No sweat though, as it is a small size, close to 1/4", so Lowes or Home Depot, etc., should have a bolt available that will work, wether you need metric or SAE.


Btw; no, I did not have to raise my engine in on my kart. As a matter of fact, I was able to lower it. My kart originally came with a Comet 30 series setup on a 1/2" platform/jackshaft plate. Using the TAV2 allowed me to forgo the plate.
Now, the TAV does sit low, below the top of my axle sprocket. In preperation for this, I cut off a bit or the bottom portion of the TAV's plate to avoid touching the axle sprocket and hub, before finalizing the axle, hubs, bearings, etc. Now that it is all together, I don't believe that there would be any contact. My axle sprocket's hub is on the belt side of the sprocket, and there is ample space between the sprocket and the belt. Maybe the locking nuts I used on the hub (opposite side of the sprocket) may hit the TAV's plate; but since the plate has been clearanced, I wasn't overly concerned with checking.

But like I was saying before, you may not have to go through any of that in your situation.
