Installing an MCP Hydraulic Brake

Hey guys - I just received a complete rear Hydraulic Brake kit that I ordered from Comet karts.

It came with zero instructions on how to hook up all of the lines, or how to mount it.

I can figure out the mounting probably - but does anyone know how those lines go? There are two outlets on the master cylinder - and 4 on the 2 calipers.

Oh - and no fluid came with it - but it says DOT 5 brake fluid so I'd assume I can get that at AutoZone.

It looks to me like the caliper has a piston on each side with a separate brake circuit for each. There are 2 inlets and the other two things are bleeder screws. After you get all the lines on, youll need to bleed the system (instructions upon request) of any air for it to work correctly. And only use DOT 5!!!

Excellent - thanks. So essentially the 2 lines connect to both of the valves on the master cylinder (via pressure lock nut), and then the other two ends connect each to the pressure lock nut, one on each side of the caliper. Correct? (If that make sense!). That just leaves the bleeder valves with no line connected. Makes sense to me I believe.

And yes - if you have the line bleeding instructions - I'd really appreciate those as well.

Ok, there are 2 ways of doing this. The first probably wont work since the master cylinder is pretty much level with the caliper.

1) Gravity bleeding
Fill your fluid reservoir and open the bleeder screws(turn them counter-clockwise). Leave the screws open for a while, brake fluid should start dripping out of them. After you've gotten a good number of drops out, close the screws and your done. DO NOT PUSH THE PEDAL WHILE THE BLEEDER SCREWS ARE OPEN! doing so will just suck in air.

2) Pressure Bleeding (You'll probably need a helper)
Fill your fluid reservoir. Push down on the brake pedal a few times till its firm, keeping pressure on the pedal. Have your helper open one of the bleeder screws. Fluid and air should squirt out the tip. Do not let your foot off the pedal when the screw is open. Tell your helper to close the screw, then let your foot off the pedal. Repeat this until there is no more air coming out of the valve.

You've already got good advice but here's a pic showing where the bleeders and lines go:



If you still have trouble getting it to bleed out I came up with an super easy trick that works every time for mine:

Get one of these nylon nipple-tip caps that come on quarts of gearbox lube.

Screw the cap on your bottle of Dot5.
(the caps threads probably wont quite fit tightly so tighten a hose clamp around the cap to help it seal)

Cut just the tip off the bottle cap.

Then hold the bottle upside down and stick it into your master cylinders round fill hole.
(You'll spill a little but if you push it in tight, it'll make a seal)

Now you can loosen either one of your calipers bleeders and squeeze the bottle to force the brake fluid through, and ALL the air out.
(it wont take very long and you'll be able to see and hear when its all bled out)

Then tighten that bleeder while your still slightly squeezing the bottle so you dont draw any air back in...

Now just do the other side and your done dude.

They sell expensive racekart pressure bleeder tools because its sometimes really tough to get these to bleed bled out using conventional methods. You can do the same dam thing with my system for free :thumbsup:
