Lots of info here, thnxs guys.

I just bought an older go kart less engine.

Would like to buy the components to power this kart (electric).
It is for my 7 year old grandson so we want it to go 10MPH max.
I found this site for parts and can order.

http://www.electricscooterparts.com/index.html

Can someone who has the knowledge give me a parts list of what I need? We would like to use a 12 car battery which we have here and want to use a foot throttle control.

New to all of this and would really like some help from those who have been there and done it.

Thxs guys for any advise you can pass along.:cheers2:

You'l probably need 24v instead of 12v, 12 is a bit low. Car batteries aren't ideal but they are the cheap option.

A 250w motor would be good for your needs, depends how heavy the go kart is though. You'l need a controller to suit your motor and a hall effects foot throttle if the controller doesn't include one. That's the main stuff, there's probably other things I haven't thought of but that gives you a good base to start from.

Thanks

You'll need some switches and fuses too. Depending on the weight of the cart , you can use more powerful motor and the top speed can be limited on the controller (so that kid can use it later , when he grows up and able to handle more speed).

Thnxs guys for the good ideas.

We have an old shool fix er uper type of kart we are working on. I would say by todays standards it is quite heavy although my 7 year old grandson can pick up the front end to turn it around.

We already have a large, quality deep cycle RV battery so it would help keep the cost down if we went with 12V. I also like the idea of going with a faster kart and regulating with the controller.

Is there any suggestions on what particular motors and controllers would work for us at a resonable price?

Thnxs again folks for the ideas. We are learning lots here.

i would highly recommend going with a scooter motor, scooter controller and thottle...

TNCScooters.com has been the cheapest ive found.

i also really have to recommend NOT using a normal wet battery. you really want a Sealed battery. in case of a mishap/crash you dont want the acid to disfigure your grandson for life because you wanted to save a couple of dollars...

you can get cheap 12v 10AH SLA batteries from ebay for about 20.00 each shipped usually.

I would go with 24V, you can always add 1 more battery later to bump the speed.

I JUST build one for my 10 year old son using a 24v 350W scooter motor, 36v controller, 36v throttle and 3 12v batteries it does 20mph with him on it.

it would do about 10-14 with 24v instead of 36v.

hes already asking me to make it faster =)

any questions feel free to ask, i'm in the process of building an electric radio flyer wagon next.

This thread is really old. Maybe start a new thread in the electric section. You will definately get more responses that way
