Well my buddy has been watching me put stage 1 predators on various chassis of karts and mini bikes over the last six months and decided to pick up a kart on auction himself. The kart was advertised as needing work one the shocks in the back was busted in half, the disc brake wasn't working, etc. I told my oldest friend in the world "Sure man I'll work on it for ya, just drop it off at the house and I'll start tinkerin." Well he did drop it off at the house. Shortly there after I asked him if it ran, he said he wasn't really sure. So I decided to give it a pull and see what she did. Much to my surprise, not only did it start on the first pull it took off outta the garage, dragged me across the street, through the neighbor's bushes, into the neighbor's open garage, and finally made a crashing halt into his 2014 Honda accord. Also by the grace of the infinitely comical cosmos he was in his garage working on his hobby, painting model rockets. So he saw the whole scenario, and I'm sure that it was quite the sight...
So, moving forward I have a good amount of bright red paint to buff out of this poor guy's bumper and I need to figure out what is going on with this death machine my buddy bought. I figured it was probably a stuck throttle, and it did appear to be a little sticky and the cable was a little frayed. So I lubed up this and that and replaced the cable. Went to pull start it today, with the rear wheels off the ground mind you, and noticed the wheels spinning as I'm pulling the recoil... So I took the torque converter cover off and I'm not familiar with the setup I saw, then again all the little toys I've tinkered with have been tav2 or generic 30 series so I've had very little experience with much else other than a couple cheap clutches on mini bikes. The driver clutch almost look like cooling fins on a predator flywheel, the belt is incredibly tight, and furthermore the masterlink on the chain is on the wrong way which is a pet peeve of mine. So if I can get some advice after you've acceptably poked at my bruised pride I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know if it's the wrong size belt, on frankly what is going on with this style of torque converter but again greatly appreciate any advice. Love all the knowledge on this forum, would be lost without it.

I can only say that those are indeed fan blades on the driver pulley. It gets hot in there under the cover and heat is your enemy so they engineered in something extra.

I'll wait on the forum and its infinite wisdom to weigh in.

Wow-zers!!!!!!!
That is a fire fox go kart.
The cvt system is the exact same style used on 150cc buggies.

You will need to take the variator (driver) and clutch (driven) apart.
I suspect your problem to be in the springs in the clutch unit are stuck open or the roller weights in the variator are stuck and flat.

Here is a good link for maintenance...

I'm sure you know that if the throttle cable isn't properly installed, variations in the swing arm angle can cause the cable to tighten or loosen (opening or closing the throttle).

My rigged up cable works ok for now - for me alone.
With two riders (one much heavier) - the full motion of my pedal doesn't begin to open the throttle.

Before, when I first rigged up the linkage and cable - I did so on stands. When I lowered the rear wheels, the weight of the kart pulled the throttle open and the buggy took off.

I luckily remembered to point it at a tree. It was violently trying to knock the tree down and dig holes in my yard.

I am glad it wasn't a neighbors car! LOL

I don't get it.

It is a cable inside a sheath.

The clamping points are at each end.

The cable could bee 100' long, looping all over the cart and it would still work. (Not efficiently, but also not jamming wide open)

All that is required is a little extra length for a flex point at the suspension's swivel point. The cable does not need to be strung like a guitar string.

Yeah, on the same day, I started a racing kart in a field and its throttle was stuck halfway open. It nearly knocked me over, went straight for a shed, then drifted, went to some grass and did a burnout. That's when the chain popped off and I was like "THANK THE LORD!"

Well I found the culprit today. The variable looked fine, no grooves or flat spots on the roller weights. The clutch on the other hand is one big blue and purple fused together hunk of metal.

So, the fine folks at Go Power Sports have informed me that their kit for 150cc chinese karts will not fit on mine. They recommended that I contact Alpha Sports, which I have. If they don't have what I need could I just bolt on a 30 series tc like I'm used to?
