I just bought my 1st go kart for my son - yesterday. I saw it listed on craigslist for $225. Texted the guy a few times and set up to go check it out. According to the seller - it runs good and the frame was in good condition. Steering was good and brakes were "iffy". The engine is 5 HP B&S. On the way there, I told my wife, if everything is true - I'll offer him $200.

We got there and I wasn't able to take it for a spin because the front left tire was flat. He had the *** end of the frame resting on a cement block with the rear tires off of the ground. It fired up on the first pull and sounded good but the tires were rotating. He said he just replaced the torque converter belt (and by looking at it - it looked new). More on this in another thread I will start after my intro.

So, the frame is good, it runs well, needs a seat, needs an inner tube for the front tire, needs the throttle cable replaced, and the rear tire wobbles when it spins (shaft is true and straight but i'm guessing the rim is bent). At this point I'm thinking: Cool - perfect affordable project for my son and I.

I was just getting ready to offer him $200 and he starts talking about how he bought it for his son but his boy just wasn't into it. Now, all he wants is to just get what he has into it. I asked him how much he has in it and he said $100. **** yea - here is a $100 and we loaded that bad boy up. 1st lesson to my son - never be the 1st to make an offer. Glad to be here and hope to make a progress thread, if anyone is interested.:cheers2:

Welcome to the forum. You are going to love playing with your new kart.

Don't worry about the wheels turning. They will do that when the kart is off the ground. It is only when the kart moves forward while ON the ground that you have a problem

is it belt driven or centrifugal
if its belt driven then it is stuck and needs to have a good tap knock or thump lol make sure to use a towel when you thunk it then use a dry grease

yup my manco did the same thing lol turns out it was stuck the belt had gotten snagged so the tires rotated when you pulled the pull start because the clutch stayed engaged

FYI: Based on the pics, the kart appears to be a Manco American Express, could be an early Dingo but, it's difficult to gauge the size...
