Hello everyone. I'm new here. i had joined a go kart site within the past month, and it was all about bashing the other builders and drivers so i opted out of it and i deleted and blocked them. I hope this is much better. I live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada, and I'm hoping to make some connections with places where i can also buy parts in Canada. I say that because i do not have a passport, so i can't order parts in the usa and go pick them up at receiving depos close to me, and no places in the usa will sell and ship to Canada saying they've been scammed to many times and also the duties and tariffs would be high too, and then doing returns and exchanges would be a pain too. i will be needing help from other builders and drivers on here please. i appreciate any and all help i can get please. i have engines stacked up and a good fabrication and welding back ground but i've never built a go kart before. this will be my first one. i'm building two. one for an 11 year old girl that has a passion to one day be in a professional carting series, and, a two person kart that is sort of like a mix between a golf cart and a side by side. i'm 57 and i'll be taking mom around on rides, she's 85 and still keeps up to me, 4 wheeling, boating, ice fishing, canoeing, kayaking, snowmachine rides, shooting pew pews, etc. i welcome everyone to send me a hello, and to comment on every thing to help me out please. thank you so much. Robert.

Welcome Robert. :welcome2: Building two karts eh? Sounds like a daunting challenge!

Oh my, do tell. We have bashed, er *corrected* people here before but only in the semblance of giving good advice. The member FreeRunner15 comes to mind. 😁 This is an old school discussion forum where you can have your own thread and upload your own photos and find everything without endless scrolling and clicking to expand replies like on Failbook and Reddit; social media sites are awful, IMO, as a substitute for this old format.

Welcome. Your resume fits really well with the rest of us round here.

What kind of engine stock pile do you have? Big difference between a lawn mower and a snowsled powerplant but both can be used for karts.

My advise is to find a frame that is in the style of what you want. An asphalt speed kart won't do well on forest roads.
The rest of it is pretty generic parts. There are several suppliers for such kart parts and im sure some of them ship international.

thank you so much guys, i feel welcome already. well i'm a welder/fabricator by trade, but i'm also self taught in electrical, plumbing, brick laying, machine shop, design, auto cad, i'm a finish carpenter, i work with leather and do carvings out of wood, i'm big into measuring over and over and making lots of jigs to set things up so they line up perfectly, i have several farm tractors that i've brought front the dead and use, i have lots of 1" x 1" schedule 80 and schedule 40 steel tubing on hand, i have a new 420cc engine that i bought for literally 50.00 at princess auto as the recoil was broken in the box and i got it at the scratch and dent sale, i recoiled the spring and installed a new rope and done, has electric start too, i have raced lots of lawn mowers, my last one i had over 3,000.00 into the engine and it was a rocket for sure, 49hp, sounded like a harley when it idled, i have a batch of snowblowers (15) that home depot tossed out, all new, that had friction wheel issues, so i took them all home and i've been putting those 212cc and 225cc engines on everything, garden tiller, chipper, wood splitter, all have electric start, all start and idle very smooth, i've just never built a go kart before so my big thing is the dimensions, i want it to look and sit right especially for my 85 year old mother to get in and out of, the full size sit up, tall back cushioned seats for go karts go on sale at princess auto tuesday, so i'm going in monday night just before close and i'm buying two of them, 149.00 each, and then get the refund back as they go down to 129.00. i already ordered up my hubs, steering, etc, i like making my own steering parts for mowers, you can race all out and run my front ends with one hand, it's all geometry that counts. i have a few dollars every pay that i can play with, not much, but i'm resourceful and i have local connections for other stuff. like i said, i've just never built a cart before. starting with the small one, and right after jumping into the larger one.
and again, thank you for making me feel like i'm already welcome here, yes some joking is good, bashing others is not, and taking suggestions is welcome, thank you again, Robert

Sounds like you need blue prints then.

A simple kart can be just a box frame. Throw some axle hangers and spindles on and go.

There's plans for a common suspension type kart called "grand daddy" if i remember right.

Or if you want look up KJ Racing. He has plans for a full on crosskart. Single or double seat.
