Hello all, I just recently purchased a carter gtr 250 buggy. The ignition switch was bad. I purchased a new buggy switch but the connector was wrong. I added the correct connector but have no spark. When i turn the switch to on i have horn, lights, and turn signals. When i turn to start the starter spins but i still have no spark. My question is could i still have something wired wrong? I have no clue what has to be made and at what position. Someone please help.

Hello and welcome.

Is the kill switch in the off position?
Is there no spark as in combustion, or no spark period? Pull the plug and touch to a ground position like the block.

I pulled the spark plug and there is no spark at all. I didn't know what components come on at what position. that's why im not sure I have the switch wired correctly.

is the kill switch a ground only or is it a live wire that it cuts power to the plug? it should be as simple as taking the lead wire from the graviton that comes out of the engine block and placing the switch in between that and the spark plug if its a live wire. otherwise you just need to take the ground coming off the engine and place a switch in between that and the ground on the block. it only honestly sounds like you have a bigger issue because it should be really simple install not to be insulting.

Simple is in the eye of the beholder. Im use to buying a part and installing it and it works. Im not use to buying a part and it " could work". I know when searching for the switch, some said their 5 wire switch would not work. while others said i probably could get their switch to work. I dint know enough about buggys or electrical for that matter to troubleshoot. Someone said it could be the cdi. I dont even know what a cdi is or what it does. Im just trying to get this buggy running for my son.

I wasn't trying to be rude, sorry man :surrender:

could you post a pic or a simple diagram of how you have it wired?

I didnt take it as you being rude and I hope I didnt sound that way either. I ended up ordering another switch from carter bros. I now have spark. This buggy set up for quite a while. Now I guess I have a carb issue because it still doesnt start. I am getting gas to the carb though.
