Simplest way to check the coil (well, the whole ignition system as well) is to hook up one of those inline spark testers - test light with sparkplug plug connectors on each end, they run about $10 at my local parts places. You plug one end into the plug wire, and the other to the sparkplug. If it lights when you spin the engine up over 250 rpm or so with the pull rope, then not only is the coil in great shape (having to jump 2 spark gaps instead of just one) but your whole ignition system is fine.
If not, then first thing to do is to confirm that the coils kill switch circuit isn't being grounded out somewhere - best way to do that is to get to the coil and unhook it if possible.
The only other test I know of for a coil uses an ohm-meter, sorry...
Are you SURE it's ignition? Most often the reason for problems after storage are because of today's cr@ppy fuel that doesn't last much longer than 30 days before it starts to varnish/degrade/etc.
