:wai: Look for the engine I.D. numbers, (MN., SPEC # and Code#), most numbers are on the flywheel shroud. Then look up the IPL on places like Partstree for the part number. Or do as Fabroman stated, any small engine shop should be able to match it.

If ten mower shops can't help, I'm thinking it may be quicker, easier & cheaper to get a new engine & put the briggs aside until you find a new coil.

I recently bought a push mower with a Tecumseh engine. Turns out the coil is toast (although, I still can't figure out how that's possible). It's gonna cost nearly double what I paid for the mower for a used coil... (but, you get that over here)

:wai:I have been working on B&S engines for over 60 yrs and I have never seen a 4 mount coil. Post the engine numbers and I see what I can do.

I have seen many of the 4 hole coils. She is an old one. The thing is I think you can put a two holer right on there. You just have to get one with the right distance from the bolt holes to the flywheel. If its an 8hp just try one from a newer 8hp and then you can do away with the points.
