If I do this, will it just make it worse?

The B&S (136212) on my daughters go kart has the diaphragm on the side of the carb that acts like the fuel pump (for lack of a better explanation). Anyway, it's starting to cut out when you first push the gas and also if you let it idle for more then a few minutes. I pulled the diaphragm out the other day and noticed the spring was sticking. freed the spring and it started running fine for about 20 minutes and started again. If I stretch the spring out a little to see if I can get it to stop sticking will that work or will I screw up the tension that the diaphragm needs to work properly?

I was afraid you would say that but I figured that's what was needed. Do I need the full kit or just a new spring. Is it common for the spring to hang like this considering how old the motor is?

I was able to buy the diaphragm by itself so I'll check with my parts guy this week and see if he has a spring or if he knows a trick I can try to keep it from hanging. It was so bad the first time I pulled the diaphragm off I thought I had lost the spring because it didn't even move and was stuck in the carb and the little ring on the outside of the spring blends in with the sides of the carb so well.

Thanks for the quick response Russ

Not to bring an old thread back from the grave but I was able to stretch the spring out ever so slightly and she's been running like a champ (knock on wood) ever since.
