simple..

it's Armature (the rotor)
and Stator windings.

both need to be powered to run the motor
you can seperately exite them (as in the diagram above)
or run + -> A1; A2->S1 (bridge), S2-> -
to end up with a convenient "two pole" DC motor for some
and a three pole for other controllers.

three pole setup would be
BAT+ -> A1; A2->S2(bridged) and M+[aka A2]->A2; M- -> S2.

but that's based on the controller you have.

This is a change over contactor right?

This is a main contactor?

This is a precharge resistor right?

Sorry i don't understand, I'm only 16,and I have only just finished my gcses can you please explain how I can determine which of these prongs is a1 a2, s1 s2, can you please explain it more simply

There are 3 prongs on one side and one on the other opposite the top one on the first side

If im not mistaken the two on the bottom are A's, the two on the top/middle are the S's.

polarity doesnt really matter (wont hurt anything, only affect direction)
jsut wire positive to one of the A's, then wire the other A to an S, then the other S to negative...
(obviously dont connect directly to a battery, use a controller)

that should spin it... to change direction, just swap the A's or the S's, not both.

Correct;
well it's of course possible that it's the other way around, but it wouldn't make ANY sense,

imagine it from the manufacturers point of view:

The stator coils sit in the center (lengthwise) of the motor,
the armatures commutator sits at one end of the motor

So it's basically stupid to move a connection that's shortest at the end to the center and vice versa.

I also assume that S1 is the one close to the Armature connections for the very same reason.
Some controllers require a three pole setup, meaning A2 and S1 are interconnected with a big wire;
and that wire is cheaper when kept short
So S1 will be close to the A2 connector
