Identify this tree

This guy is near my office and I love it, thick green canopy in the summer then as a good deciduous it sheds its leaves, I’d like to plant at the new house!

Yes a cottonwood...

A bit of a funny story..
When I was a kid, out back of the alley the house across from us had a few cottonwood trees that bordered the property... They were a good 40' high at least...
During a winter windstorm, a large branch was blown off and speared in the ground in our back yard..
Following spring we were clearing the yard and decided to pull the branch out... Low and behold it was rooted and growing... We had to dig it out...

I reckon you take a pruned branch and plant it... It'll grow... They are quite the hardy tree...

Yeah, cottonwood.

They can be a pain in the rear though, especially when the fuzz gets sucked into your AC condenser and clogs up the coils. And it's too light and fluffy to really do anything with. It just floats around, and a lot of people are quite allergic to it. Plus the fuzz is really flammable when it piles up.

Odds are, if it's the only one in the area, you will enjoy it and your downwind neighbors will hate you.

Besides that they're very nice trees.

I have 3 cotton woods that we're planted by my grandfather. They were branches he cut off of another tree down by the river. Stuck the branch in the ground and now 40 some odd years later I have huge trees shading the house.
But the septic line are close and the trees love the water. The lines have been dug up and replaced several times now.

Cottonwood trees suck! Indiana is lousy with them. If you enjoy plugged up A/C condensers in your house. Plugged up evaporator cores, condensers and radiators in your car. and plugged up swimming pool pumps in your pool then go for it.

thanks all, very interesting, so yeah I could probably prune a branch and I might mention, this might be the fuzz-less version cause I haven't ever noticed it around the office, and check this out from a local nursery

If it doesn't produce the nauseous fuzz, it's probably not a cottonwood, but a poplar, a close relative. Hybrid poplars are extremely fast growing trees.

The wood is a bit heavier and denser than cottonwood, and often has a greenish tint.

I wouldn't plant a cottonwood, (fuzzless or not) because for one thing, they can (and usually do) drop huge limbs and are prone to rot.

or you haven't seen it in spring ...

maybe some other type of poplar? we mainly have the skinny variants here in europe (you know those tall skinny trees you see on italian paintings alot )
but there are black poplar trees (dark'ish bark) with a wide canopy..
look around on trees of the "populus" branch (hehe pun intended)
since it surely is one of those (populus -> poplar )

Cottonwood? Try burning some.

Only the female cottonwood produces the cotton. So If you have never seen the cotton, it is probably because its the male tree.

That makes perfect sense, still...THOSE TREES SUCK!

I'd sooner plant an Arizona Ash. The problem with ANY fast growing trees, is that they are fragile, and somewhat short lived.

I'd do live oaks. Proven equity assets, and NOT pest trees.
