Second welder in a row begin to kick ye 'ol bucket...

I turned it on tonight, and it made a funny noise. Like metal on metal...(fan maybe)... Not to mention the wire seems to speed up and slow down a tad.. barely noticeable...

But of course, this had to happen after I put the 1/4in hole in the back of the case, for the wire to pass through... So my question is, will they still accept a return/exchange? I might be able to get away with taping the manual over the hole...:devil2:

I am thinking I might very well upgrade it a notch or two, since I play by modified BBall rules...2 strikes your out.... Since it takes a couple bux in gas to get over there...

Im 70% Irish... but I do not have Irish Luck...

hf? just return it, weather or not it has a hole, they will prob just throw it out. get your self a name brand welder. or just go through hf ones until you could have bought a name brand one using all the money you spent getting a 10 dollar insurance policies on the hf ones.

cost as much as 3 hf ones, but it can be adapted for mig, its a lincoln, i have gotten good pen using its bro on 1/4" with low wfs, and can also get decent pen welding stuff to 5/8" rod with the same method as the 1/4", prob fits a 10lb spool, comes with lincoln wire, and many other reasons, also its quit nice to adjust between 50a and 90a.
may i suggest you buy this welder?
also, this is a great idea! http://www.millerwelds.com/products/wire_feeders/millermatic_reach/

p.s. blue, maybe its because you were cutting with grinding disks? get the heavy duty one.

Try CL. There's a lot of small migs for sale on mine. I'm just waiting to jump on a name brand one with a tank and regulator for an unbeatable price. I know it's a long shot, but you just need to wait in the shadows until the opportunity arises.

I took back one with a hole in the back panel (10lb spool mod), they don't care what's in the box, and likely wouldn't even know there wasn't supposed to be a hole anyway.

Used name brand welders on CL are the best bet. You can get a craftsman with a small bottle in my area for $250. I bet I see 2 a month.

I would personally rather have good used stuff over new China junk. But sometimes the China junk is the only option because used good stuff can be more expensive still. I do like HF.

yeah, HF is good on certain things. some are cheap parts that can be upgraded, but you may end up paying so much on upgrades it isnt worth it.

Is there supposed to be a feed motor in the gun of these? Because @ the end of the spool, I had to yank about 6ft out of the gun, since it wouldnt feed....

the feed motor is in the machine, not the gun. it is that grey motorized wheel pressed against a bearing.

I got that part slick... But generally there is something in the gun to move the remaining wire along, else you end up wasting 6+ ft of wire...

no there isnt. its wasted. not so smart but thats what most wire feeds do. however, there are guns that feed the reel right on top of the gun.
