16hp horizontal Briggs opposable head kart build

I'm building a buggy. I have a old Briggs 16hp opposable head motor. I was thinking about putting two motorcycle carburetors on it. I think it would look bad #$$. But will it perform the way I want? Any info out there would be great.P. S. I am building it from ground up out of a old yerf dog. I'm going all out with it. Pretty much have everything for it.

Greetings and welcome to the forum! :welcome2:

For this endeavor, you've got to flesh it out a little more. We need info and photos, man. Tons and tons of photos. But like you said, will it "perform the way you want?" Depends on how you want it to perform. :D

Welcome! Pics and specs of the carbs and engine will be needed. Some carbs would work if they are within similar specs of the original carb, otherwise you might have o modify the engine itself for them to work

Well if you are truly "Going All Out with it" give this a quick read:

Welcome to the Forum!

Different animal Eric.

Splitting the carburetion will work on a 2 cylinder engine but a balance tube must be between the 2 carbs and the intake ports, it will make tuning easier. You will need to know the cfm of the original carb and then get 2 half the size. Or you could cheat. Say you're engine is 600cc, get 2 carbs for a 300 cc engine. Remember it is better to round down to the cc than up when choosing the new carbs for example. If you're engine is 630cc you would be better off going for a carb for a 301 cc engine. The 390 cc carbs would be too big and would kill low speed torque. Good luck.

I was thinking that too; horizontally opposed engine. I don't think Briggs made those.

Hey, where's those photos, K.C.?! It's the 21st century, man--get with the digital program. :D

I would put the carbs directly to each cylinder. That's what I was thinking. And they are one strong engine. The pistons are as big as a Chevy 350

I'm not sure if this is getting to anyone. Lol. I'm not computer smart. I'm a fabricator/ machinist/ and anything else I can learn. I've taught myself how to so many things. I love knowledge. And the best way is to ask questions. My last one is on stand by. Learned polishing! My 1957 homelite 55 super wiz looks great. But need a handle so I can put back together.

Have you tried eBay for a handle yet ? I just did ! They are pricey but there are some there.

And I think we have a few of those saws at my work.

A lot of trial and error. Lol. To polish the aluminum like that. And had original paint match. But a great learning experience.

I think we may be in uncharted waters here. This is a fairly original concept as far as kart adaptation goes (as far as I know). What did the engine come from and is it a vertical or horizontal crankshaft?

Just want to make sure it can be mounted properly to your kart...
