I need help with basket case Tomberlin crossfire 150

I just bought this tomberline 150 and it needs a lot of work but it has a new motor setting in it and I want to start there by getting it running. Its never had oil in it so is there a special break in oil to use? What would be the break in procedure? I thought I might over fill it and let it set for a few days to get oil on the crank bearings and whatever else. make sense? heres some pics of it and the motor.

Just regular 10w30 or 10w40 should work. To lube the bearings you can crank it with the spark plug wire off for a little. Just take it easy the first few hours to break in. If you really want to be careful you can let the engine idle a little while until warm and then shut it off to cool off for a few cycle.

This is taken from a Manco GY6 owners manual. Pretty sure this applies to all GY6 engines, that's what yours looks like. If you can see a brand name on it, contact that company for information.

Thanks guys thats what I needed to know. I think the motor is made by T mek maybe does that sound right , Ill look.
Today Im making seats for it starting with plywood. Illpost some pics of that.
Now, wheres the battery supposed to be mounted?
As I was working on it yesterday I realized it has a 150cc motor These things must fly. I had a 125cc dirtbike and that was pretty darn fast.
I might have to get my grand daughter something else and keep this one for myself.

Very well laid out website. Has a good clearance section. Will even cross reference OEM part numbers when you search.

There is a super long post on here with a lot of links. The above two worked the best for me for this style off off road kart.

I got my torque converter and seats belts from eBay,
I got my chain from Amazon. If you are prime there are good deals that way, but the parts description sometimes sucks. So you have to do more research to make sure the stuff will fit.

My seat is just wood + foam + fake leather stapled around it. The foam you can get at a hobby store as it is used for making furniture seats. They have higher densities. I over stuffed mine to make the ride easier on the rocks.

I get almost all my crossfire parts at Buggy depot, had no issues at all.

bought a battery for it today and a bunch of odds and ends.
I took the rusty old chain off and set in in Ospho overnite, tomorrow Ill get that on and adjusted.
I put it on jack stands and sure am glad I did because the back wheels were wobbley and found the big nut that holds the wheel on was loose on both sides even though they both had cotter pins. Tomorrow should show progress, possibly have the engine running.

Is "T-mec" sound like an engine name? I cant find a name on the engine but the guy I bought it from said it was something like that and paid 400.00 for it. Sound about right?

Yesterday I got the rusty chain cleaned up a little when I noticed it was shot so I'll be getting that next.
today I'll be working on the seats it has none so they'll be done from scratch.

heres some pics of the chain. It was so stiff I had to pound it to get it to fit in the container to soak it. Ospho is what I soaked it in overnight. after I pulled it out I rinsed it in alcohol then wire wheeled it it was bendable already but would need to be soaked in oil to finish. I could have gotten it a lot cleaner but noticed some problems. Theres a lot of splits I couldnt see with all that rust on it. so now Im going to have to get a chain. I went to tractor supply and they had one at a great price but it was 10 feet long I only need 34 " (53 rollers).
Hey, if some of you guys have time can you take some pics of your reverse set up I want to install one on mine if I can get the parts I cant afford a 200.00 kit.

There are two different reverse setups, internal and external. Internal has 3 shifter positions, R N F or R N and D. The external reverse setups only have F and R shifter positions. As far as I know, you can only add an external setup on yours. You'll need the shifter, the cables and the reverse assembly. Unless you can find a used assembly somewhere, it will be pricey.

I got started on the seats today. The plywood is cut, then I realized it'll need to move up and back so my grand daughter can reach the peddles. I found an old impala seat and took the slider off but it was too wide and needed to be 5 1/2" narrower so I cut that and welded it then I realized that was a passenger seat. Im going to use the Impala seat belts too so the passenger seat is almost done anyways. Oh on the way home I spotted an old wieght bench someone was throwing out and I grabbed it for the metal and found out its just what I needed to have the backs adjustable. Heres the pics

I cant believe how much everything costs, Like tires are just as expensive as the ones on my car. I found back tires 22 x 11-8.00 for 38.00 ea.
I've been toying with an idea of using an old 12v winch fabing it up with a sprocket. When you pull the reverse lever the whole unit swings down onto the karts chain, release the lever and it swings back up and out of the way. Im trying to get this thing going using as little money as I possibly can even toyed with using a nissan master cylinder (80.00 is crazy) for the karts brakes This is all stuff thats laying around the shop so far. When you have a welder you have a lot more options than just throwing money at it.
