I am a computer programmer. I know nothing about cars, and that irritates me. My parents never taught me about engines, and i never learned it in school. I'm now a 24yr old computer programmer, with a primal urge to get his hands dirty. I want to build something with my hands.

When i was 14, my grandparents bought my brother and i two go-karts to play with. We ran them into the ground because we never learned how to take care of them. and i am ashamed to admit it, but to this day i still can not change my own oil.

While i may have been spoiled rotten as a kid, im a bill paying, savvy adult who wants to build more than computer programs.

I want to weld hot steel in my garage. I want to argue with friends over proper suspension, or the probable turning radius of a given design. I want to come out of a pleasantly-frustrating experience as a better man. one that knows what every man should know ---> how. cars. work. even if its on a basic level.

Im not a just a geek. I'm a dude who loves fast cars, beer, and building. and you best believe i plan on mixing all three.

My goal:
Build a drivable machine with breaks and a gas pedal using steel, friends, and this forum.

Any ideas on where to start?

Hey- Welcome! You've come to a great place, lotsa knowledge and kinship floating around. Grab a beer or more, and spend a good deal of time cruising the forum. You'll learn quite a bit just reading through the threads. Feel free to ask a ton of questions. If it's an honest question, it's not a stupid one.

Your first mission will be to determine what exactly you want to build...
Cheers- Chris
