Hey guys, i am at the end of my build and have my buggy assembled, i am trying to work the kinks out of the torque converter and engine. when the engine is at idle, the driver on my 40 series is engaging slightly. i did what any engineer would do and dismantled it to see what i can do to make it better, upon dismantling it i assessed that by making the spring stiffer, i would delay engagement because it would resist the weights more. I acquired some shims to put under the spring to make it stiffer, but it seems to work odd, it wont engage until i give it gas, then it doesnt really disengage fully unless i push the carb to a lower idle position. the driven also didnt change at all during revs. anyone have and comments or help for me? its a 16hp clone duramax motor.thank you for your help!

Start with the simple stuff first, before breaking out the slide rule. Make sure that:

1) Your engine idle speed is within spec

2) Your center distance from the center of the drive unit to the center of the driven unit is EXACT for the particular belt # you are using. There are series 40 belt charts all over the 'net.

Did you buy the 40 new?

Ok I fixed it! Thank you for your response.it turns out the spring from the throttle to the gov. Was in the wrong hole from factory and had a slight but of tension at idle making the RPMs rise slightly. Now my last step ifs the dreaded throttle cable linkage
