Being this is your first kart. I would find a used frame to start with.

Look for a frame that has steering. The more parts on it the better. Chances are you can find one for around $100 or less. That would be a great start and all the hard stuff is out of the way?

You cn also find old school mini bikes cheap. That may be an option for you. Mini bike you can also ride places a kart cannot. They are a little cheaper to build as well.

Make your kart/bike quite. this way you don't piss the old lady off down the street. I have learned mini years ago that quite is much better when thrashing thru neighboorhoods. You can ride all day long. With strait pipe everyone and the mothers are looking out the window to see what the hell is going on.

good luck

yea....i got a shifter kart frame, when i was 14, with everything minus engine....i put on the HF 6.5 and it was a blast. now i bought the HF MIG 90 amp welder and cant be happier with the flux welding. very versitile and convinient. Im building the Spidercarts.com Black Widow and its a great project if you customize it a bit(i added a suspension that is ill)

i am 15 and i gotta say good luck to all you mechanically inclined kids. we are the worlds future engineers

i get a's without much trouble, but i often make stupid mistakes in math(mental math is soooooo much better 75 percent of the time, we have been doing review for 2 months so i have to wake my self up occasion), trying to fix that. yea idk, maybe my parents just didn't wan't to buy gas , i really don't know. i'm with redsox, engineer or something along that line sounds good, i bet bill cnc has a pretty cool job.

I took one advanced mechanical engineering class in college. Frankly it was not entirely enjoyable. From my perspective at least it seemed a bit lengthy in all the processes. If any of you have plans for engineering get into advanced engineering, physics, calculus as soon as possible and study hard.

Yeah I thougth that too, theres quite a difference between actually being a engineer, and being a kart builder, or something else mecanic-hobbyish. :)

My grades are general B's across the boards, historically, although w/ pending divorce of parents, they have turned into B's+D's.... I think I want to go into engineering.. but Im not sure if I could handle sitting at a desk all day...

Im the kinda person that doesnt like solely pen+paper.. I like to be involved building the prototypes and such...

I might go into either carpentry, or iron work...

i wanted to be a engineer so bad but then we took a tour to a engineering office and all it was was desks and computers, and a library.

now i dont want to be an engineer............ lol

i want to be something more like a mechanic but now my parents dont like the fact i wouldnt go to college....

well anyway i dont like sketching or any desk work. i like to get some grease on my hands and get to work.

Look into the different fields. Mechanical engineering at large schools is often involved with the SAE race program. Mechanical is towards the cars, engines, mechanics end of it. Not alwyas sticking you in a desk.

Well to make it sure :

Engineering: Is to invent, Scheduling and control of a mechanical process, which the
Mechanics will do, not themselves.

Mechanic : is to work, repair and BUILD ( not invent ) with machines.

If you like both of thoose you could get job as a Bachelor of Technology Management and Marine Engineering. ( phew, im sure there is a shorter word for it ) Where you will be wanted to think yourself, and repair (mostly) with that proffesion, you'll work most with industrial engines, or Off-shore (oilrafts etc.) and on ships though.

If youre interested in this, and want to know what it is more specific, i have a uncle which is it, then can ask him.

Or you can take the study for Bachelor of engineering, which is, atleast, in Denmark (y) gives you the possibility to take the study as a craftsman.

This got far longer than intended, bear over with me :)

Thanks 4 that,
I like to build things but cant stand sketching/math, so i usually just eye everything. How do my projects come out? Chain falls off...... ALOT.

And that is why ive been working since april on my pit bike, went through 3 motor changes, lots of total bike rebuilds (new motor mounts and such) and it still took at least 3 1/2 months until driveable.

But with repairing thigs i usually decide to fix them my own way.

I used to be that 8 year old kid who said "screw directions" to my lego sets, hahaha
