I got an old kart! What is it??

I picked up this kart on Friday. The owner said that it was a restored 60s kart, but had not other info.

It was definitely repainted, but the "restoration" was horrible. I need to clean up the welds and stretch the frame to fit me.

Any idea what it might be?

That's just a rubber car mat glued to the floor. It will be tossed as soon as I can peel it off. The fuzzy dice are already gone.

I need to get a better pic of the mounts. I can't tell if the 2nd one was added, or just poorly repaired. Someone clearly augered out the holes for a different bolt pattern and there are no provisions on the axle for a 2nd chain, but a lot could have changed over the last 40-50 years!

For now the only other pic I have is it sitting in front of my '59 this Saturday. It mostly fit in the trunk! :)

Based on those photos, I don't think it's a Rupp, but each of those is very different. How many designs did Rupp use?

The sprocket is part of the brake drum if that provides any clues. Both rear wheels have drum brakes, but only one has a sprocket. Again, it could be an aftermarket repair/replacement.

Funny, I saw this thread yesterday morning, then a friend of mine sent me a link from the HAMB..."Hey, I've seen that kart before!"

Simplex used that 2 spoke steering wheel. Pedals look right too...not the front end or motor mounts though...maybe just not a Simplex Challenger.

I like mixing old cars and Karts...would love to check out your show! I tried to get Pistons and Paint (Denton TX) to let my '62 McCulloch in but they never responded to me. Gonna get it in this year in the back of my neighbor's '60 El Camino of the same black/red paint scheme.

Nice kart. Looks good in spite of bad resto

Hmm... Bug and Simplex look very close, except for the front end. It could have been changed I suppose.

Souperman, that link doesn't work. It says "Forbidden"
