The point that was being made earlier by someone else was that a snow blower is basically stationary, not moving at 25 miles an hour with wind on it. I have never heard of four stroke engines cold seizing before, but I freely admit I am NOT a small engine expert. I'm not sure what to think at this point.

Now that I know that the engine will turn over again, I am inclined to simply reassemble the whole thing and see if it will start and run.[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't without pulling the head and looking at the cylinder if it were mine...

It'd be a sunk cost in my time. if I were to go to the effort to disassemble the valves and remove the head to find out that it's damaged I'm simply throwing it away or keeping it for parts. If I reassembled it and it runs, great, I have two engines. But if I reassemble it and it doesn't run and is damaged, then I'm throwing it away. Spending the time to disassemble it further has no gain. Either it runs, or it's junk. I'm not investing anything in it, it was $100 motor.

Hey man, it's your engine - it doesn't matter to me. In my mind it takes 5 or 10 minutes to pull the head, and it if it does have some galling in the cylinder, it can be honed and saved, and you'll know for sure you have 2 good engines.

Like I said, it doesn't matter to me, I just like working on these engines anyway, and I wouldn't chance wasting one even if it was a cheap engine! Plus, I'd have to know what caused the seizing! ;)

I may dig into it, but my time is so limited, and getting the kart running is where I need to focus my energy first.

Bosch, it is always a good idea to figure out why the engine went bad to help yourself and others from making the same mistakes. When you get time open her up.

I too hesitated in 'opening' my case up on my GX200 for awhile. After I did, I found out all sorts of stuff that was never mentioned. After I opened it up... it was pretty much all down hill from there, once I knew what was the 'issue'. It took a matter of 15 mins to break the engine down to this... so not having 'time' isnt the problem...

If ya need a new cylinder... instead of buying an all new engine... maybe get one of these?... and swap all the parts over? Or if its the head?

I had a GX200 that was 'maybe' pushin 4-5hp (due to 'issues') and w/ the rebuild, made a 10-11hp engine... for less than the cost of buying a 'whole' new engine... (I never installed the springs)

Quite honestly, I wish I had done it sooner, than I did. But, shoulda, woulda, coulda... didnt.

You gotta watch suggesting he put his engines guts in a clone block for a couple of reasons.

A. Piston is bigger on a Predator (+.080")
B. Depending on generation of Predator cam journals are bigger
C. Lifter stem diameter is bigger on some Predators (if not all)

Its best he take his engine back if it still has a warranty.

Yes, you are correct, however, I am about 98% sure they would tell him that it wont work for predator parts, if that be the case, by refering to the VIN#... and upon ordering, he could just mention..."I cooked my predator clone and need a stripped case." That site specializes in Honda's/HF212's... and the linked block isnt the 'only' block they sell... but good looking out!

... and YES YES YES... if still under warrenty... GET A NEW ONE!!!!!!!

If it blows up, it's not covered.

Thats not entirely true... if the engine was purchased and ALL the guidelines were followed (and the engine never opened up) a return swap is/has been done several times round here, according to the HF cashier that I spoke w/ last month. However, if the case has been tampered w/ the warranty is voided. She's mentioned that they've even taken back engines that werent taken through the 'break-in' phase...

I guess it all depends on who/how you talk to em. I/myself, being of similar appearance as a well known actor helps, but only w/ the female attendants. The males, I actually have to sound like I know WTF Im talking bout for em to take me seriously enough to wheel n deal.

I probably should have clarified this sooner, but the could engine came used with the go kart. if I remember correctly, the data plate indicates that it's about 3 years old. Ill look tomorrow.

the data plate says December 2001 so it died right at 3 years old.

you have all been very helpful on this forum, and I feel like I'm letting you all down by not tearing into it further. But truth be told, I have Parkinson's disease at age 46, and manipulating small objects is pretty challenging. (the majority of my posts on this forum are voice transcripted because typing is difficult.)

I really want to contribute to the forum considering all of the help that has been given to me here. I too want to know what's wrong with it, but I'm going to focus on getting the kart running for my boys first.
