In my case .... after I let the girl drive the trail bike I built, she wants me to build more. So in some cases she helps with buying some of the stuff.
I was going to do this build for the contest ... but Im deciding to do something else.

True but, it sucks more when you have the money & can't find any parts outside the USA

You've gotta remember, you guys "stateside" are spoilt when it comes to parts; there's like three places Australia wide that sell torque converters & a 30 series will set you back around $400

Ditto. Everything I buy off the shelf has to be cut, welded, and modified to work. I mean EVERYTHING!
