Hey guys how are you today.
Well my name is Ash. am new here . i work as general manager for Heavy Duty company..
when i was cleaning my warehouse . i found 1 new and very clean Honda GX390... it was on Big water pump with heater but the pump was dismantle..... i am planing to build go kart. i live on the beach so i want to know if this engine will give me enough power for the Kart. i found some plans on the internet to start with and i have big work shop. but i need some advice that can help me ... thank you so much.

Welcome, Ash! The Honda GX390 is a GREAT engine, it will not disappoint you. It will have plenty of power for all but the largest projects.

Welcome!! That engine will be more than enough power. Just make sure that the output shaft is a straight keyed shaft, and not taperd. You will not be able to use it with a tapered shaft

luckily the shaft is straight keyed.
you can't imagine how much i was worry to know if the was keyed or tapered... until i had to go back to the company to make sure ...
tomorrow i will take picture for the engine...
i didn't start with the frame yet i have some plans ill show you the draw . i found the design on the net with pdf file explains most of the things.
and am still searching for the parts. i bought 40" x 1 1/2 inch square pipe to start with...
am wondering do i need any special clutch for the engine.
and is it a good idea to use sport motorbike brakes..?
and what shaft size i should use for back...

There's two main types of clutches, centrifugal clutch

or torque converter

Either way, with the big engine, it's gonna cost you...

and is it a good idea to use sport motorbike brakes..?

The rear disc brake setup should be enough; the difficult part is you will need to make (or have made) a hub to connect the disc to the axle

and what shaft size i should use for back...

1" shoud be enough but, if the kart will have some rough treatment, go to 1 1/4" (although, availability is the important part of the equation)

i went to check for some parts. i felt sorry for the bikes there... almost 30 bike scraped ..

i guess if i don't find the clutch here in Liberia i will have to order it from the states.

good news . tomorrow i will receive 4 tyres and back axle with the sprocket and the brakes + the clutch. i had all with very good price.
i want to know if the clutch used to be on 450cc engine will work. the bike shown in the picture

No, you wount be able to use a bike or ATV transmission with a GX390

i forget to mansion its Kawasaki ATV i bought the whole unite less than 250$. but if the Torque Converter for the ATV doesn't work. that's mean i have to order it and ship it to Africa with DHL. i guess it will cost me double price. i wish if Caterpillar parts could fit there it would be to easy for me ... lol ..

With a GX390, you are going to have to use a torque converter, similar, if not the same, as a comet 40 series. You won't be able to use any other transmission off a motorbike or ATV, because the engagement RPM's of these transmission are different (usually more) than what your GX390 can give. A GX390 is usuallt governed to 3600 - 4000RPM's
