I reckon a motorcycle wrecker would have a few types to choose from about the same price or less, for a proven design and function safe for the highway, than a el-cheapo miscellaneous branded brake. If say cruising at around buck20 or so, I would not really have like my a$$hole as the last thing going through my mind in a crash, because of a cheap brake failure.
Depends on how fast your traveling, scrub brakes could suffice in a pinch, cost you far less and do a sufficient amount of work in stopping.

Band brakes if designed correctly and the proper quality have massive dependable stopping power and a great price. Don't knock it.

First, nobody here is doing anywhere near 120- MPH or KMH.

Second- you're going to suggest scrub brakes over hydros, even if they are chinese? :eek:ut: If anything, stay the he// away from scrub brakes.

That said- I use "recycled" Japanese motorcycle brakes as you suggest, and I do recommend that. However, in order to get away with it, your fabrication skills have to be up to the task. It is always harder to make use of parts that were designed for something else.

To the OP- as long as the brakes you select are sized appropriately for the application, and installed correctly, you shouldn't have a problem. By sized correctly, I mean, do not use OEM brakes for a go-ped on your 500lb trail-masher- you will die.
