Hydraulic brakes (Master Cylinder) HELP!!!

On the pedal side of the master cylinder there is only a shaft and the rubber bushing that goes around the outside.

I feel like its missing something. That does not seem like enough pressure to push the brakes.

Basically it's a needle running through some outer rubber into a shell that just runs into a metal wall when pressed all the way in.

Is there suppose to be some kind of mechanism or something inside the petal area?

These brakes are driving me nuts!

Help is appreciated!

The little pin pushes a piston inside the master cylinder, the piston probably has a spring pushing it back that is inside the master cylinder that is pretty tight, kind of like a car's brakes. the reason hydraulic brakes are desirable is because it takes less foot pressure to apply a tremendous amount of breaking power.

do your breaks stop your kart ok? If they seem squishy you may have air in the lines and have to bleed them.

Brakes don't work at all. Tried bleeding them tons of different ways. Cleaned everything out with air incl brake lines, piston, etc.

Inside master cylinder that ring bullet looking shell doesn't move at all.. That's why I'm wondering how these work or what is causing it.

That piston should move. It's either seized, or the return spring is stuffed. Teardown time.

How do I get it out? I tried looking for a c clip inside the pedal side and didn't see one. Any suggestions? Should I try removing the reservoir and covering it up then blowing air from the brake line side of the master cylinder to the pedal side to push/force it out?

Strange, I don't see one either... Give it a try, the worst that can happen is it doesn't come out.

Note: Brake fluid is dangerous stuff. Block the reservoir hole but, wrap the whole assembly with a rag & point the pedal end towards a solid surface into another rag when you force air into the other end; the last thing you want is a bullet, much less a bullet covered in dangerous liquid...

Update*** ... Turns out that it was stuck inside .. I took reservoir off and brake line, blew a little air from one end to the exiting end. Then lightly tapped it on the ground (on top of a thick cloth) and the lips eased out enough for me to grab it with some needle nose pliers.

2nd Update.. Fabroman, you were on the money. It did need new seals.. I took a light wire brush with some brake fluid and lightly hit the inside to remove any foreign gunk from the inner walls. I put it all back in the master cylinder and its pumping beautifully like it should.

I am about to reassemble reservoir and put it all back on and try to bleed the brakes now. I think it will work.. Pray

Sweet!

Before you reconnect the hose, use a bolt to block off where the hose screws in to seal the unit. Lightly clamp the unit in a vice, add a small amount of fluid to the reservoir & use a phillips screwdriver to slowly pump the cylinder; you should see small bubbles in the larger hole in the bottom of the reservoir & you know it's bled when fluid squirts out of the small hole...
