I have a Honda GX160 from a power washer and it hunts at full throttle. I think under the load of the pump, it would run ok. On the kart, it hunts. Any solution for this?

Gearing is 6:1
No filter and the carb is clean. Runs great up to speed then it has trouble holding a stable speed. RPM's go up & down a little.

Any chance its just bouncing off the governor causing the surges?

Could you explain this please?

When the governor kicks in, it forces the throttle closed, dropping RPM, Once the rpm drops the governor kicks out & revs start to climb again until the governor kicks back in & so on & so on...

I have the same problem with my GX but I'm not concerned coz the governor is going but, I think its a governor adjustment issue. My reasoning is: I put the carb & tank on another engine & the problem didn't exist...

All things being equal, it should not do this. FWIW- I would like to clarify governor operation. I have heard it described as "kicking in" or "engaging" or whatever. Technically, the governor system is always on and operating. Operation should be smooth and continuous, not erratic or jerky.

That said, "bouncing" is not always a big concern. Often, it can by caused by a slight governor misadjustment, weak spring, or sloppy linkage.

Gearing CAN be a contributing factor. If there is no load at high speed, (caused perhaps by low gearing) the symptoms of an above problem can occur.

The engine is not modified.
I think it may be sloppy linkage or a weak spring. I'll get to it after school and see what I can come up with.
