Hub on kart project is frozen to axle

gonna see if I can get it pressed off tomorrow I guess. In the meantime I made a backup out of two axle shafts from an old craftsman transaxle by welding them together end to end while lying in a channel of angle iron layed on the vise. It stayed true miraculously. I would rather run the original axle so I hope it comes off with some hydraulic persuasion.

Have you made doubly sure you
- removed any set screws?
- released/removed any anchor bolts?
- soaked in PB Blaster?

Just checking, you never know, don't wan't to embarrass yourself...

However, sometimes, even after following all the rules, rust still prevents hubs from moving so, you're on the right path...

got the hub off with some oxy-acet persuasion. torched off the (too small) sprocket too. Turns out the axle is bent so I will be fabbing a new one out of an old dump trailer axle. I will need to cut it to length, cut in a keyway for the sprocket hub, and drill it for the two wheel hubs. Fun fun fun!


Today I picked up new bronze bearings for the carriers, hopefully I will get the axle cut to length today and possibly drilled for the hubs too. Stay tuned. I may start a buildoff thread actually. Might as well. This thing is far from 50% done.

I see your sprocket is welded on. That is a big no no. Don't do that with the new axle

that is not the spocket I am using. No worries. That was the one it used when it had life as a mower.
I have a new axle now anyways. I will need to cut in a keyway to secure the new hub/sprocket/drum assembly beyond the set screws
