Working on second cart. Old Streaker. Heavy frame. Really heavy. My two seater Yerf dog 3203 weighs a bunch less. I'm a big boy. And wonder if a modified Predator 212 is the best option. I want the cart to move. Should I go with 212 or look at the 13hp. I want to get the most out of it but don't want to throw money down the chute chasing some wild idea of wind in my undies.

Should I go with Predator or look at the 13hp.

You can have both...

Predator is a brand, not just a single item; Predators also come in 13hp...

Looking at the engine plate, it's difficult to judge but, it looks small enough to be a small block mount so, IMO, it ran with a small block once upon a time; however, we have no real way of knowing how well it ran...

Having said that, 13hp is always better than 7hp so, I say go for the big block... if you have the skills, tools (you will need to mod/replace the engine mount plate) & money to do so, keeping in mind a 1" TC is considerably more expensive than a 3/4" TC...

What about the 8hp? Does that require a 1" converter? I ordered a 1" TC 30 by mistake and haven't sent it back yet.

Is there an 8hp Predator? I thought they went from 7hp to 9hp...

Either way, a 30 series TC is good up to 8hp; the hp rating on these engines is a baseline, ie: the actual hp is, most likely, more (allegedly, people were complaining that their 8hp engines only produced 7.8hp & claiming false advertising so, companies now need to advertise the absolute minimum hp)...

Either way, is there much point upgrading & spending time & money for the sake of 1hp?

I don't know anything about the Powerland brand. Is it reliable like the Predator? Can I buy a bigger mounting plate for it or is that something that needs to be fabricated?

Yes predator makes an 8hp. It's called a 301.
Wish I would have known about the power land before I bought mine. Not complaining much but, a hundred more cc's for less money is tempting.

Remember there isn't a replacement for displacement.

And I made a adapter plate for mine so I got both big and small engine mounts now.

Was just at HF today and picked up a 212 for a snowblower. Anyway they had the 79cc, 212cc, 301cc, 420cc and the 670cc all in line. The 301 is pretty large compared to the 212, but the 212 is also wider than the old engine that kart came from, being a over head valve rather than a l-head (flathead). The benefit of the 420cc is, it's both pull start and electric start, so you could add a small 12v battery and have electric start. The 301 does not have electric start.

I'd vote for the 301cc or something of the equivalent in displacement. Not many engines are rated by the HP rating as Honda, Briggs, Tecumseh and other small gas engine manufacturers had a lawsuit against them about 10 years ago. All it would take to make a larger engine work is drilling out slots in the engine mount.

You'd want either a 1" TAV 30 or a 40 series. But you may have limited room for the larger engine because they are pretty wide and tall.
