Hey everyone, my name is Owen I live in Massachusetts. I've had a Yerf dog since I was about 13 (11 years ago). I work On cars a lot specifically audis, and drive a 2003 Audi rs6. This passed summer I decided to refinish the old Yerf dog as a fun project (I always need to be doing something). I stripped it down, sanded/ stripped all the paint, repainted it, replaced every worn part, and replaced the techumseh with a predator 212cc 6.5. During this whole project I became a bit obsessed with it. I'm now on a journey to get as much power as possible out of this motor. I have done just small things so far (jetted carb, cone air filter, and header). The kart will do 30mph but I'm looking for more. Any body with knowledge on these motors i would greatly appreciate some input. (This 6.5 hp kart is almost as fun as my 450hp Audi).

next would be governor removal and direct throttle kit shoulc cost you all of $6-$10 and some time.

But shouldn't you at least put a billet connecting rod and a billet flywheel and maybe stiffer valve springs?

No, they are the LAST items on a long list, in the order you listed them; there are many other mods to consider before those...

A billet flywheel is only needed for high RPM (over 6000); once the governor is removed, the valve springs will start to bounce at around 5000rpm, negating the need for a billet conrod...

A billet flywheel is only used to reduce weight, allowing the engine to spin up faster...

Well I mean if he wanted to remove the governor he would have to do those mods. But like sanding the head to remove gasket, porting, polishing , etc. Sorry for the confusion.

5000rpm is not even close to "too fast"...

When heavy valve springs are used...

thanks for the info! I originally planned on removing the governor as soon as I unboxed the new motor but I was to eager to try it out. The kit I bought that included the header, filter and jets also came with an 8 degree timing advance key. I'm curious why the key was included? Should I run this? it seems like and excessive amount of advance for such light mods. Thanks!

...Because advanced timing is one of the simplest ways to gain extra throttle response...

So I just removed the governor. The engine will not idle though. I have to give it gas to make it run, then as soon as I let off it will die. Did I do something wrong? Or will I need to widen my idle jet? Thanks

Turn the big black plastic phillips screw/bolt clockwise ... that adjusts the idle...

... if you added more air flow... then adding fuel would be needed.

Suppose it could be the fuel air mixture... but if it ran before w/ the governor in and the intake/header installed. Only way id suggest a bigger jet, would be if it bogged at higher rpms.
