I'm an old goat, 70 & I like building stuff.

Glad to be here. Looking to learn some things & maby make a friend or 3.

I'm actually building a scaled down rc go cart on a 30" wheelbase. I'm using cart parts instead of rc stuff because it's heavier & will handle the engine I'm planning for it.

I'm an old adrenaline junkey who's beat myself up pretty thoroughly in the past. It's all coming back to haunt me in that I now live with pretty constant pain in my body & I have no business strapping myself into a cart & furthering my discomfort.

So I figure I'll rc it & stand on the back porch & still be able to tear up some sod out in back of the house.

Hellion, thanks for the howdy. The technological aspect is what mainly attracts me in building stuff. You know, figgurin out how to make it all fit together.

you are aware that you will have to throw a ton of money at the steering right?
or, at least a ton of work..

a servo to control a butterfly on a carb is just about any RC servo alight, one that turns a go kart steering must be ... well HUUUGE!
You could try and go the car-window-lifter route wich is likely powerfull enough, as long as there's no crush protection built into the servo.
I'd try that first tbh (scissor lifter to be precise since it comes with a rack and pinion you could reuse ))

You could also use just about any motor and a poti to make your own servo-replacement, but that'll likely require some codework on your part which is also not always too trivial depending on the control's you are about to use.

Anyways.. I'm glad you stopped by and let us see what you'll come up with

I'm calling it a mini kart. Overall dimensions would also allow it to classify as a quarter scale sprint, as well. But I'm planning a massive power & torque to weight ratio for it, so felt that using karting komponents would be the logical way to go. Annd since I think karts are kooler than rc kars, I'm calling it a kart.

I dig a diy forum on the subject...I've seen some really talented work in my initial reading through the forum.

I've been giving a lot of thought to everything you've mentioned, itsid.

Some of the items in this project, I'm beginning to evolve good pics in my brain as to how to engineer this all together.

Some of them, I'm still totally in the dark...but that very thing is the real juice in all this for me...the opportunity to learn how to do new things. I NEED the challenge!

Landuse, thanks for the welcome. I've got the frame sides/cage sides pretty close to done. Next up is crossmembers to tie it all together & motor plate etc.

ohhh I really will enjoy watching you build this... this already looks like it'll be awesome!

Just one micro-suggestion if you allow me to:
move that engine out of the way.. once you start ripping your lawn with this.. all the neighborkids want to ride it...be prepared to install a passenger seat

Nevermind the seat I was just saying that it already looks like _I_ would like to have a seat in there.. and I'd bet your neighbor kids (grandkids?) would love to too.
it's still an RC project and adding a 'breathing' passenger adds another can of worms..
so no.. I think you shouldn't add a seat really...
BUT in case you have grandkids... you might need to build another one, non-rc...std kart config
