Just picked up a manco white fox 2(not sure why they painted it red) to play around on. Has a tecumseh power sport on it. Will be upgrading to a torque conveter set up for more off road speed

Have you driven the darn thing yet?

Some people never give a kart or minibike a chance with the stock engine or drivetrain configuration--they just start "improving" things from the get-go. That's fine and dandy but they never get to establish the benchmark or the low mark of performance, so by looking back they can see where they've been and how far they've come. That's always valuable.

I have rode it. It needs a new clutch for sure as it want to go as soon as you start it. Maybe I will throw on a clutch and see how she does on the grass/off road before going to a torque converter set up (Unless someone knows where I can get a used tav/series 30)

A bad clutch is more likely to not move due to slipping, Not engage immediately, Most likely a throttle and/or Idle issue and NOT a clutch issue.
Also I would not take that Kart "Off Road at higher Speeds" It has no suspension and tiny tires and wheels.
Just because Liability issues (that Drove the Fun Kart industry Out of business) made them add a roll cage to Karts that (before giving up entirely), Does not make it an Off Road Buggy.

There's cheap TAV kits on fleabay for around $78 shipped. Chinese made knockoff it is, but isn't everything these days?

If you're running on hills or uneven terrain, the TAV is gonna be your best bet of course.

If the kart wants to take off as soon as you start it, it might not be the clutch (as in a worn out clutch). Your idle speed might be too high making the clutch engage prematurely.

Clutches do require proper maintenance to last. The clutch bushing needs constant lubrication, for one.

Yeah, I'd toss the roll cage, keep the slicks and make it a drifting machine and weekend-parking lot-warrior mobile.
