how to weld?

hey guys how do u weld?

lol i know i sound stupid asking but i have a friend that told me i could use his mig welder. and ive never welded in my life.

any advice or tips would be appreciated.

MIG welding is like using a glue gun, no joke, pull the trigger and weld. Ultimately you want a stacked dime look to your welds like this, but that takes practice.

To start off, grab a scap piece of steel, put the tip of the gun about 1" away, pull the trigger (with mask on of course) and start to move the gun downwards slowly while waving back and forth slightly. Just play with it, maybe go buy yourself a 1lb spool of cheap wire and just practice. It took me about 1 spool of wire before i got it down to the point where i could weld just about anything i needed to.

Ohh right, is it a mig or flux core? i mean does he actually have the gas or not? i know a few people that call their welders mig welders when there just flux core. Anyways, he probably knows the right mixtures for the gases, just have him show you.
