Sorry for all the dumb questions guys, but does anyone know how to tell if this part of my original comet converter is still working. It will spin free off the bump stops when I rotate it opposite direction and spring still seems like it has pressure. I was thinking if this still works I'll just replace the top pulley that is trash and that way I can reuse this engine plate and sprocket so I don't have to worry about the chain not fitting if I buy a cheap knock off converter.

Take it apart clean off rust and replace buttons/ springs if needed and make sure it’s not pitted and you would be good to go

as he said..
just give it a good clean and it'll be fine..
a worn button can easily be replaced,
a worn spring is only slightly more difficult to replace.. still nothing you would need to be afraid of.

heck even if one sheave is warped you can replace it.
all parts are on mfgsupply.com in the gokart/clutches/comet subsection
