How can placing a piece of lead rectify an offset in the axle of a wheel? This may work for balancing tire irregularities but to my knowledge cannot remove an axial offset.

Besides, I already went the route of getting brand new wheels which BMI's owner, according to their customer service rep, deems as never wobbly in the past.

So now I either pay again for un-re-mounting the tire, then shipping the bad wheel back to Ohio, or abandon this supplier, write it off, and try one of the suggested alternative brands of wheels. (Though Van-K, according to their web site, does not make 8" rims.)

put on their balancing machine. they will stick some lead on to even out the wobblyness

This will do absolutely nothing at all to solve the problem.

Wheel balancing addresses high-speed shimmies caused by a dynamic unbalance in the wheel/tire combo. A rim with zero runout will shimmy at speed if the mounted combo is far enough out of balance. This condition is amplified by any play in the wheel bearings, rod ends, ball joints, other steering joints, or any combination thereof.

I can assure you that if the rim is not true (bent) you could strap Rosie O'Donnell to it, and you're still gonna have a death wobble. Period.

oh ok. I thought was like a little wobble on the new wheel he got.

i had some steel rims made once which were a little wobbly on the balancing machine (enough that you could see it not running true with your eye at speed). Put on new tyres and then the guy balanced them. The guy couldn't get them perfect but after sticking on alot of lead they were much better (couldn't feel any wobble while driving).

but yeh i dont know what im talking about but thats my experience of wheel wobbles:D
