Im gonna stand by fabroman on this one. In Australia it is NEVER called a cycle, I can understand why it could be called that, but when the word stroke is already in the engine vocab, why not use it for something else aswell haha.

I have to agree. I have never heard the word cycle used to describe engines

For some reason Americans don't like the letter "U", it's dropped from a massive amount of words.

I have to agre. Doing a spell check on my work always throws out the words "colour" and "neighbour". Maybe Americans are afraid of the shape that a U has???? :arf:

Fab- You HAVE to PM me that. As far as the rest- whaddya expect? Even your TOILETS flush bloody backwards... LOL

Have you ever thought that it is your toilet that flushes backwards?? Is there some potty documentation that states that toilets have to flush a certain way, and if not, then you are backwards. Hmmm :roflol:

ar ha
sorry for bringing an old topic up but i love stirring people up
and proving us aussies are right:roflol:

iv been studying engines at TAFE (theory part of mechanic apperentaship)

and after watching endless vidios on the workings or an engine
most of with were made in the late 70s and all made by americans. Some by Cummins some by Cat and one on 2 stroke detriot deisels as well as a long list made by some random education group, probs your version of tafe

But one phrase stood out over all

cummins make 4 stroke and detriot deisels are 2 stroke

also all of our books are american and while some terms were differant (the wrist pin?) they refer to them as 4 stroke

a cycle is the whole operation in one
for example its a 4 stroke runing the otto cycle

really this was pointless but just wanna bring it up
its stroke in australia and stroke in the US

What's funny is, when I was going to automotive school, the videos we had to watch were Australian, everyone ran around in those one-piece jumpsuits. :roflol:

What do you call it?

is it equally bad and made in the late mid 70s

i guess u guys were watching holden movies on cars but we dont own any big truck or heavy machinery companys (exept westrac)

dont u guys use overalls
its the uniform for most places
its funny going to westrac (cat) its just a sea of orange
its similar in your vids
watching vidios on the Eaton road ranger boxes and everyones in blue jump suits
some of those southern accents almost need subtitles to understand them

Been there, done that. Have you seen the vid with the F1 car dropping a valve yet?

That's what I said :roflol:

I mentioned that the word cycle can mean "a series of repeated events" so, in this case, the 4 strokes of an engine would technically be 1 cycle :D

How to make Predator 212 deadly quiet?

What that got to do with anything? :roflol:

Nope. Simply not possible. The valveless flush toilet was invented in America. Obviously, some overseas folks got hold of it, reverse-engineered it :roflol: and has been making clones since. Probably Chinese.

That would be good to see
But I'm doing heavy mobile plant
So earthmoving gear and some in highway trucks
We don't even look at petrols just diesels
The trade off being we study hydrolics and power shift transmission

back on topic... lol

Some cars use mufflers that loop back through the case to cancel out some of the unwanted tones. I know BMW does this and some others.

It wouldn't be too hard to fabricate a muffler like this out of sheet metal. The pipes inside the case would have to be drilled and then wrapped in a thick layer of steel wool, then fiberglass wrapping. You could fill the rest of the case with fiberglass chopmat.

The loop back pipe length could be tuned with diameter and length.

The X could be changed out with a parallel merge as well.

Could make for a "Deadly Quiet" muffler..
