How to keep my go kart under control

This might sound a little silly to you experts our there, but how to you adjust the engine so that the go kart stays in place and doesnt run on its own. Its my first time making a go kart and im almost done, and i dont want to ruin because of it running out of control.

make sure its idling low. not high. proper chain tension. and a good proper clutch. and before you ride it the first time jack the back wheels and test everything.

Yup, sounds as if your idle is a little high and your clutch is engaging too soon

Had same issue, backed the idle down and it made all the difference!!!

There are no silly or stupid questions; trivial, yes but, not silly

Turn the idle down till the engine does
Then turn it up a little

If the back wheels are off the ground then the wheels may spin even if the system is working perfect

Do these adjustments with the kart up against a wall so if it goes wrong then it can't go far

Start off by putting up some pics of your engine, including your throttle mechanism. Right now, we are assuming that you're using a traditional horizontal shaft industrial engine that shipped from the factory with a hand-controlled throttle lever, tied into the engine's governor system.

You will need to connect your kart's foot throttle to that hand lever mechanism. In addition, you will need to loosen off that hand lever a bit so it will move freely and not stay at a fixed setting. you will have to install 2 return springs- one at the pedal, and one at that hand lever, so that when your foot is not on the pedal, the throttle always returns to the idle position. If, after all this, your engine is still idling too high and causing the kart to want to drive away on it's own, you will need to adjust the idle stop screw on the carburetor.

You guys might not beleive me but it fixed itself. I turned it on and jumped on as it was going. Halphway throught my backyard it like snapped in place. But i have Another problem with it, ill make a new post for it

U may want to oil your clutch

That could well be the problem...

Oh don't just put oil on the clutch
There is certain spots that require it and certain spots the oil must not go


There is a proper write up on the cleaning and oiling of the clutch but u will needs to wait for anoughter member to present it
But u need a tiny amount of oil on the bushings

The way u say it just snapped back and started to work again makes us think that the clutch was locked up due to being dirty or though lack of oil

Though using it, it has in locked and now u can oil and clean it to prevent further troubles

U wouldn't want to go flat out down a road then find the problem is back
