How do you hook up a throttle cable? I have a Honda 5hp GC160 engine. where on the engine should i hook it up to? im thinking the lever (rabbit ----- turtle)?
There is a rod that the end makes a 90 degree turn - the 90 degree goes through the hole on the pedal - the flat piece of metal - Tinnerman Nut - slides over the rod to hole it in the pedal. Some pedal rods have a small hole for a washer and cotter pin.
The end of this rod is threaded or has a collar on it. It goes through a metal tab that is welded on the kart. Then that spring and the nut if you dont have the collar. This pulls the pedal back up when you mash it.
Then a little distance from the metal tab - there is another metal tab. The plastic piece goes in the hole - then you feed the cable through that.
Then it all depends on what type set up you have. I have two karts that has a hole in the rod right before the spring. I can feed the cable through the hole and just use the lead bead on the cable. I have one kart that uses a "U" shaped clevis that holds the cable ball and some karts use the little cable lock with that kit.
This has it hooked up to your pedal with a solid strong metal rod, metal rod from front to back so the cable doesnt get in the way, and it has spring tention on it.
That is basically what that kit is for. You now have a rod / cable ran back to the motor. As long as you already had the rod still attached to the kart or you bought a new one. I have seen a couple older karts have the cable rigged straight to the pedal.
There are tons of ways to hook up different type motors. The Briggs motors usually hook up under the gas tank, the racing Briggs has an aftermarket kit that bolts to the pull cover, the new Preditors has everything there you need - you just need a cable with no ball on it. The clones and I think the Hondas need an aftermarket kit. Im not sure on it though because I havent never fooled with either but I have seen alot of pictures. I will do a quick search right quick and post some links that may help you..
