I have a kart and I want to convert to shifter kart. I took the old Ital Sistems MV31 off and loaded the YZ 125 on it and it does not fit properly. I can tell that the seat brackets will need to be altered. I am not sure if it will fit even then but I want to keep the seat in perfect line with the steering wheel. I don't like when the seat is offset from the steering wheel. Question here is what would you do? If I move those seat brackets the engine will be really close to the seat, Maybe get a smaller seat? Also, the engine is kickstart. You can tell from the pics that the kick start is very close to the wheel. I have seen other builds and there kick start clears. What do you recommend on this?

Thanks

On this style of frame, the seat is always offset to the left, moving it a bit further won't make that much difference as far as the seat goes.

What you need to do is find a good balance, weight wise, otherwise your kart will be heavy on one side...

Fitting a smaller seat will do nothing because the brackets are still in the same position.

i would buy proper shifter kart engine mounts if you can. will the sprocket fit where you need it to? looks like there's already a slot for a key stock

put some tape or stuff a clean towel in that intake. if something falls in there thats death

When you run a gear box engine . The rear hub & sprocket it going to much smaller. And on almost all new chassis are offset to some degree. You can even the balance out some buy putting the radiator in front of the engine. You could call Eric at SeventhGear.com for used parts . The one thing to note is tube spacing on the chassis. MM or Standard size tubes . Buy a base plate and building your own mount mount on top of that is not that big of a deal. Prop engine up make hard board patterns then transfer that too some hot roll steel plate. Or just buy a mount on any of the on line Kart Shops QRC COMET . Once you really eye ball it the build up of the whole deal easy. Cutting a seat mount is not big issue . You can leave some there (stub of the tube) as they sell adjustable mount the clamp on .

I know the gear will be smaller. I just took the ital off and am looking at the fitting of the yz125. one big issue i cam into was the kickstart hitting the wheel. But I have looked around and I think the best thing to do will get a extender.

As far as the mount, I am not very good at building things so this may end up not working out. But I have some 1/4 inch steel that I am going to cut up to begin making the mount out of. I will show a mock up of it.

That's about all there is too a mount. Give Burris Racing a call and ask for Mike or Kurt . Tell them you need a base plate to put your mount on . I would suggest running chain tensioner . It will make the chain tensioner not that important . That is also some you can make or buy.

Yeah I have seen those mounts all over and they are pretty expensive considering I have to buy a lot more. I do plan on putting front brakes on it. Just will wait for funds on that. Want to get it running first. I am actually trying to find a new frame that supports a bigger axle and stuff.

I run a 40mil axle . I have seen some big horse power run through 1 1/2 size axle with no problems .

The issue I have is I am using a old TKM kart so the axle is a 30mm. I have been looking and can't find a 30mm shifter kart sprocket. I will have to upgrade to 40 or 50mm so I can get a sprocket.

Actually I think I am just going to upgrade to a 50mm axle. This will give me stronger support in the back.
