how to clean plastic tanks.

i have a old plastic gas tank. and i want to clean the inside. any ideas?

the way i used to do it is to fill it with water and drain it a lot until theres nothing visable, even use soap if you want. there turn it over and let it sit for a day, after that take a blow it with a hair dryer and make sure to get all the water out

Fill it with kero or if u can get brake cleaner

if its really that bad, i guess you could put like a strong soap in it. if it can hold the acidic content of gas, can you not use mineral spirits?

I just use gasoline.

Im pretty sure brake cleaner deteriorates plastic.

I never tried it but I bet you POR15 Marine Clean would clean it right up. Or just use some solvent. Thats what it's for.

Bighead, you always say that stuff will probably clean anything. Im gonna have to try it. How much does a can of that stuff cost?

I pay $8 a quart and you mix 5 to 1. So 5quarts for $8. I get it at my local outo paint store.

Carbon exhaust build on and around engine ports? Take's it right off. I can take a nasty two stroke engine and have it spotless in very little time. Little scrubbing on the carbon buildup and pressure wash. Done

What Marine Clean is original used for? Cleaning tanker ships tanks,bilge tanks,grease traps. Made for the Marine trade. It really is good stuff.

Here is a vid what it did to my blue ody frame. And it was caked with two stroke oil. The pics below were nasty dirty two stroke engines. They are painted in the pics but they are very clean. I was shocked at how well it worked. More so after I washed it twice with purple power before using the marine clean. Even deep in the fins was spotless. Under the head? did not even have to scrube.
