How to bleed disk brakes

is this hard to do?? Do you need special tools to do so?? Pics/ vids would be helpful.

Youtube has tons of videos on how to to this. Its easy, and you dont need any special tools.

Heres how i was taught to do it.

Your going to need a helper to pump the brakes. You'll need a bucket to catch the brake fluid. There should be a little bleed screw on the caliper.

Have your helper apply pressure to the brake pedal and open the bleed screw. Brake fluid will squirt out along with little bursts of air. Close the screw and tell your helper to let off the brake pedal. Your helper MUST keep their foot on the pedal while the bleed screw is open. If they let off it'll suck in air. Repeat this until only fluid squirts out.

Fill it before you start and check it afterwards, you'll probably need to add some.

No no no no no no. Brake fluid, the top of the reservoir should say what type(DOT3, DOT4, or DOT5). Use only what it tells you to use, the wrong type of fluid can eat through rubber components.

ok i got the screws out but then i realized that they didnt have anything inn them. one of them squirted out a little bit when i did the process listed above, and the other one didnt it just sputtered out air. i think im missing the brake fluid. how do i know what type to use?? and were doo i put it in??

You dont have to remove the screws completely, they should 'open' with a turn or so. Look on the master cylinder for the type to use. Posting a pic of your master cylinder & brake caliper would help.

ok. my dad had some dot 3 in the shed so i just used that. i poured it into the little box where the pedal connects to, and where on the other side the two brake lines go out to the brakes. i noticed the reason that the brakes werent working. one of the fitting thingies that is used to p;pump the fluid was cracked so air and brake fluiod would get out through there and thats why it woulddnt get to the brakes. my cameras not working so i cant take the pics. i hope to get that fixed.

That rubber piece shouldnt keep it from working.

You really need to understand on a basic level how this thing works. Googling "master cylinder" would be a good idea.

Pumping it without lines attached wont do anything. Google "bench bleeding"
