how to biuld a shifter kart

Just gotta have a light on the rear, for safety. I'm putting a Pocketbike LED light on the back of mine, probably use a AA battery pack to power it. Last time, I just zip tied my Snap-On LED flashlight on the back. There was a guy there a few weeks ago with a Briggs Twin and wheelie bars on a golf cart, he was poppin wheelies every run, and going low 10s,

this is why I want to go there so bad, the kart fanbase is quite high up there, and we gotta get a race set up between us.

I've only had it up to about 80 or so, so far, not enough room or smooth enough road to go much faster, lots more to go though. I haven't had it out on the road course yet, so far, just the 1/8 mile drag strip, and it didn't hook well enough there, went 9.90 skating all over the track, still dialing stuff in though, I'm sure it's got at least some mid 8s in it if I can get enough of that power to the track..

Good topic, lots of good links. Read up on a lot of things there..

Detailed plans are for sale on a myriad of websites and would be your best route. At around $20, it beats running back inside to the computer and waiting on a response from us mid-weld.

Alternatively, draw up a few designs, and maybe you can go on that. If you're not going for the cup, go for what you think looks best and functions to your standards.

If you need help generating ideas, search the 'net for pre-built frames, and design off of that.

I'll warn you, though. Building your own is usually pretty expensive.

She Might be able to hit 70, pinned, on flats, but thats really really pushing an old 125 2 stroke. My kart is geared pretty low, for a top speed of mid 70s, and thats with a 400cc twin, i could probably push it to around mid 80's to low 90's if i wanted, but i dont want to, 70 is more than enough on a kart.

Dude 50 on a kart is like 100 in a car and you fall out on those speeds you want serious protection and yall gota build a kart up with everything machined out of billet with pro tig weldin so nothin flys appart so you dont kill yall self.

I have a tig welded custom machined aluminum banjo joint coupler, custom made/partially CNC milled muffler, and some milled exhaust flanges. thats about it for machined or tigged parts.

I'm talkin' about 80 at top of 3rd or low 4th gear, and in about 400-450 feet.
I think I'm gonna get a bigger front sprocket, I was playing with it in the parking lot at work yesterday afternoon, and it seemed to launch better in 2nd gear than in first.

The only thing I've been able to find on it is 40 hp@8000 rpms, but that would have been box stock. Mine has a big K&N filter on it, and an aftermarket expansion chamber. Plus, the kart only weighs like 310~320 lbs. WITH ME ON IT,
There's a shop here in town that has a dyno capable of doing ATVs and karts, might just have to see what's what one of these days.

No room for that in my seat, , I gotta pour myself in there. For g forces as high as 2.5, you don't want a loose fit.
I used to drive a 600 hp 427 Vega back and forth to work a couple days a week, and prowl the streets on the weekends, and I had a 300 hp nitrous system on top of that nasty roller bigblock. Imagine doing over 140 mph in the 1/4 mile in a Vega, , not all that much different, except the kart handles a fair bit better, and has better brakes,

mine will probably be pushing 38hp tops, but its also twice the size and probably weighs almost 400lbs without me haha. Makes me think i shoulda found myself an old lc/2 stroke bike engine...oh well i basically stole the engine i got. Anyways, now you just gotta make an off-roader with an IT490 engine haha.

Mines gona be about 20+ horses ima mod the engine in it its a 4 stroke twin! and it has a 6 speed transmision and its gona be about 350 lbs with me on it ahahah. im gearing it for around 50... oh did i mention its a lawn mower?
